Studies are easily manipulated and therefore are not always accurate.
Making blanket statements you pull out of your ass aren't always accurate, either.
I can conduct a study and the conclusion would be that Asian guys like white women. The outcome would be based on my 3 friends and me, which all prefer white women. Does this make my "study" valid?
Seeing that this study was done as part of a Graduate research program, I'd say they were a little more thorough than that. I could be wrong though, I'm not a doctor.

Why do Beauty magazines feature men with six packs? Why are male hunk calendars full of men with six packs? Why is the weight loss a billion dollar industry? Why do classic paintings depict men with six packs (even Jesus has a six pack in most of his paintings)? Why do women drool over the spartans in the movie 300? Why do most male strippers have six packs?
Beauty magazines feature women who are bone thin as well. Small/non-existent breasts, no ass, etc. Do you think that's what men "generally" prefer these days? I don't think so.

They agree.
What woman do you know that buys "male hunk calendars" ???? I can confirm from my firefighter friend that their firefighter calendars sold to more men (sexuality not confirmed) than women. Take that as you will.
Abs can be seen in some paintings as a means to portray starvation or strength. In the example you used (Jesus) I lean more towards starvation...
Men made more of a deal over the 300 guy's body's and workouts than women.
I'm not going to even attempt to rebut the male stripper thing. I gots nothing on that...but I don't know any girls out there fucking male strippers left and right.
You guys are talking about the exception, which I understand that not ALL women likes guys with six packs, but a six pack has always been desired by both men and women.
The whole reason why I'm even participating in this thread is because I think YOU are talking about the exception. The sect of chicks out there that just have to have the 6-pack gym rat. As the article above points out, what society considers sexy changes. Guys desire it because they either like rubbing down men with 6 packs or they have the same belief you do...that girls want a 6 pack. Period.

For anyone to sit there and tell me that women do not prefer six packs is ludicrous...
Why? It's ludicrous to you because you adamantly believe women prefer them. I think it's ludicrous that you're filling this thread up with matter-of-fact statements with little to nothing backing them up. You can speak in generalities all you want...but at least speak in up to date generalities.

While I will go do 1000 sit ups so that when I go to the river, women can wish their bf had my body....
Those looks could mean they are wishing their bf had your body, or they could be something a long the lines of, "Why is that guy out of the river and posing on his inner tube?" : P
When you get in shape enough to have a 6 pack, you're most likely doing it more for yourself and your male peers (sounds familiar to women getting all dolled up for the other women, not the men...eh?) You'll feel better about yourself, and the confidence you radiate will attract women. If you don't believe that, then why aren't you at the bars holding your shirt up and exposing "The Situation?"
Do your sit ups, get your swell on, enjoy yourself. Like I said before, if that's what you gotta do to get to the point where you feel comfortable and confident in yourself, then that's exactly what you need. But, just HAVING the abs doesn't get you anything.
