Here's my take on things: there's nothing wrong with having high ass goals, but when they are egotistical goals, then you are bound for misery.

I completely agree with this. Pursuing high achievement in something to run away from your own problems doesn't work. And in any field it can lead to psychological instability and self-destruction, sometimes concurrent with external appearance of success. Witness Kurt Cobain and John Belushi. And yes, even Mystery.

I consider pickup to be a skill like any other skill or sport. It is challenging and it is fun. I think it has more similarities than differences when compared to other sports or activities like playing music.

With any sport, including pickup, you can pursue it for the right reasons or for the wrong reasons. I thought you were saying that for pickup, the reasons are always wrong reasons, which is what I disagree with.

Are they sometimes the wrong reasons? Sure.
Usually? I don't know.
Mystery? Probably.
TD? Who knows.
Always? No.
