I use a canned opener. I send the same one to every single girl. I messed around with openers until I found one that not only opened well but got a conversation flowing nicely. Girls need about 3-4 messages back and forth to feel comfortable with you.
Most guys use the content of her page to open her. I suppose this is fine however keep in mind any decent looking girl is probably getting about 30 messages a day. Guess What...most of them are very similar to each other. So I would say try to stand out.
I once sent a girl a message and she responded with a bunch of stuff and in her first message she left her name and number and said screw talking on here just text me. I later quizzed her why she did this and her response was: Not only did your message stand out, so did your profile. Meaning I didn't send the same boring jibber jabber all the other guys send out.
The first line of my opener is a Neg. I don't necessarily recommend doing this, as I know for certain some girls took offense to it. The ones who did I know would have been a pain to deal with. Many girls commented on the neg wanting to know why I felt that way. It peaked their interest. A lot of the girls actually agreed with me. More than likely though I think the neg could have been dropped and results probably would have been slightly better for me.
Is there some reason you can't type everything up in a word document? It will correct many things for you. From what I can tell about online girls they really want a guy who has good grammar. Make damn certain your profile isn't full of mistakes. If it is you can rest assured many girls will next you right away.
Say it ain't so! They screen for good grammar and spelling aka a modicum of intelligence? Go figure.
Reminds me of the proverb. Until lions start writing down their own stories, the hunters will always be the heroes.
