The "go getters" are gonna go get it.

Anything goes

The "go getters" are gonna go get it.

I figure, it's time to start losing the holiday fat and getting sexy for all the babes of the summer.

The world of diet and exercise is confusing. It's hard to tell a dumbell from a cow bell sometimes. Two weekends ago I asked Lion and Prodigy, two guys who "know their shit" when it comes to fitness, for some advice. Lion recommended a cave man diet where you only eat meat, nuts, and berries. Well, that would probably work but it's a little nuts for me.

Prodigy recommended the "shake weight."

I did some research, then I said "fuck it." I signed up for annecollins.com, where they give you a meal plan and grocery list so all you have to do is follow it. Structure all but guarantees results as long as you have the will power to follow it.

For exercise, I got a copy of the P90X. All I can say is "HOLY FUCK." I just did "day 1" and it's "killing me." The only thing I've ever done that hurt worse than that is when I used to do MMA.

So work time is ON. The goal is to lose 1 lbs per week, and get that beach bod for the summer.

Someone I think very highly of once said "If you want to be successful in life, you've got to put yourself in stressful situations. You've got to put yourslef in UNCOMFORTABLE environments. That's how you get better....so mentally, that's where the challenge kicks in. Fight thru that. Now that's when I get a little more grit. That's when I get better."

He also said "the go getter's are gonna go get it."

It's time to go get it.

What are you guys' fitness goals, and what are you doing to get there? What do you use for motivation to keep you ATTACKING the training instead of getting lazy, showing up, picking the weight up a couple times and going home?

I hurt EVERYWHERE. It's great.

Grit time.

Still wondering what you all do to get pumped up to work out. I'm all ears.

I talk down to myself...

Then I go prove to myself that I'm wrong. I find it very cathartic.

I have almost been working out for a year now. So when I first started I figured if I worked out 150 times I would look amazing. Unfortunately that isn't the case. It did motivate me though to go to the gym. I would count each workout. If you can just hang in there for about a month IMO you can easily get hooked. I stopped counting at around 110 or so as I moved and would sometimes workout in the gym at the APT.

My current motivation just comes from wanting to be able to take my shirt off, at the pool, or in the bedroom and actually have girls say, wow that guy looks good. At my age it is starting to become do it now or do it never. I have chosen now, and that allows me to easily be motivated to hit the gym consistently.

Dieting and cardio are my current chore and I will admit they are much harder to get motivated for than the gym. I am still struggling with those, but doing my best as of recently.

I'm sorry I don't have any gimmicks to get you motivated. I just look in the mirror and imagine what I could look like if I just do this or do that.

Thanks.

Bull Run, I can't tell if you're being serious but I kind of could see that working. It's like you're challenging yourself every time you hit the weights.

Playercool, I remember you telling me about how you counted your workouts, I think that's one of the smartest things I've ever heard because I can see how that keeps you structured. One of the biggest problems I've always had when working out is I let myself cheat. I'm doing P90X now, so that's 90 days. A big reason I'm doing it is just for the structure. After that's up, I may set up my own 100 day plan just like you did.

But then aside from that, I'm looking for ways to bring intensity to each and every workout. Something to make me fight for that last rep every time.

I'm 100% serious. I tell myself that I'll never win, that I'll never be any better than I am right now, that THEY won and I lost. Then, I go to the gym and take it out on the weights.

right now, When it comes to working out, I am probably the least motivated person here. My diet is trash and working out has been inconsistent at times. This is all due to the fact that I have great genetics.

However, I plan on getting into phenomenal shape for the summer and that is what will motivate me. On a deeper level, what motivates me is validation and praise. I LOVE it when girls compliment my body. I LOVE how I look in clothes. I LOVE it when people girls check out my body. It makes all the hard work in the gym worth it. I'm a narcissist. What can I say?

But, when I do get to the gym and when I am serious about lifting, it's all business in the gym. I lift hard, eat well and stay focused. While I have great genetics, most don't realze the time and energy I do put in at the gym. I'm not there to talk or socialize. I put in work, and I go home.

Once you start working out and see the difference in your body and in your mind it becomes an addiction. Just like a drug addiction. A hard workout releases chemicals into your brain like a high you would get from drugs. You crave that high after a good day and after a bad day. That high clears your mind of all your troubles. That high makes everything bearable. And if you don't feed that addiction and get high you get dope sick. Dope sick hurts the entire body and the mind. Your motivation in going to the gym every day is to avoid being dope sick.

You do have the best "physique" of any of us... momentarily. One of the things that motivates me, in anything, is competition. I want to be the best at everything. That gives me the drive to make it happen. So I'm gonna have to get to where you are physically. That's the bar. It'll take some time but glory belongs to those who will take it.

I'm sure genes play a part, but I'd bet you have pretty good lifestyle habits to go along with it. I know my lifestyle habits have been awful. Drinking, Whataburger every other day at 2am, no exercise, it's a wonder I'm not a fat slobbering blimp by now. No matter. That ended 6 days ago.

This is going to be a process.

I love working out. I feel productive after a good workout. Although so far, the "difference" has been to GAIN 4 lbs (176 lbs to 180 lbs) while on a 1900 calorie diet.

No matter. I've never really exercised before so I'm sure it's nothing but water weight in the muscles.

By the way, I don't drink alcohol anymore at all. At least not for 84 more days.
