New Years Resolutions

Postby Guest » Wed Dec 29, 2010 12:35 pm

Every year I try to make some resolutions. Some of them I stick with; others I forget all about. This year, my resolutions are about recreating myself, shifting my outlook in a signifcant way. In that sense, some of my resolutions are very different from previous years. None of them are about meeting chicks, although they may make me more attractive and women may pursue me if I become more well-rounded and higher value, but that's not the point. Here they are:

1) I will be more outgoing with everybody I encounter. I will treat everybody the same, whether it is a child, an old man, a dumpy house wife, or a hottie. I will smile and say hello to everyone. I will engage people in conversation whenever time permits.

2) I will show genuine interest in people. I was at a social event recently where I knew a core group of people. When the event was over, I realized I only talked to that core group of people. That was a wasted opportunity. I could have gotten to know and learned something about a bunch of new people. Also, I will ask questions to learn about people and resist the temptation to relate what I learn to myself. People tend to make everything about themselves, but successful people know how to show genuine interest in other people in an unselfish way.

3) I will dress more like a grown up. I make this one every year, and I have made improvements. However, it's just too easy to put on jeans, sneakers, and a t-shirt, especially because I can dress casual at work. However, I am a professional, and I should dress like it. I resolve to dress the way I want to feel, which is attractive, mature, and successful.

4) I will meet my internal visualization of my outward appearance. This one is tricky. All my adult life, I have been around the same weight, which is 145-155 lbs. There was a period where I was somewhat out of shape and got up to 165 lbs. There was a period where I worked my ass off to put on muscle and was around 165-170 lbs. Neither one of those meets my internal visualization of myself. Ideally, I would like to be in shape, lean, and athletic, but no more than 160 lbs., preferably around 155 lbs. It's not about the weight. It's not about looking good on the beach or meeting the expectations of women. I have a picture in my mind of what I look like, and I want to see that when I look in the mirror.

5) I will be more involved with the world around me. I love to listen to and play music. However, I never go to see bands play, and I mostly play music in my own house. I also love art, but I don't even belong to the Dallas Museum of Art. There are a lot of fun things to do that are right in our back yard, including sports/social clubs, live bands, art museums, dance lessons, amusement parks, volunteer organizations, wine tastings, etc. If anybody wants to get more involved in things, I'm down for anything. Just PM me and I'll do the research and organization. I don't care if it's paint ball, pickup basketball, volleyball, a road trip or any trip really, an improv class, watching a cool band play, a jam session or band practice, whatever. I'm down. In fact, I have a bunch of flag football stuff at my disposal. If people are interested in a lair football game, I can set it up.

6) I will not reserve time and energy for pursuing women. Online dating is a time suck with very little likelihood of meaningful reward. Women are all around me, and if I stick to the above resolutions, there will be no need to sit down at a computer to email strangers or to "go sarging," nor will I have the time or energy to set aside for this purpose. I still have the initiative to meet women, but like I said above I will treat everybody the same. If there is mutual interest, I will know what to do from there.

I've never been one to make resolutions. Thats just not how I roll. If I want to accomplish something I figure out what I need to do and make it happen then, I don't wait for the "new" year. However I decided last week I am taking dance lessons beginning tomorrow night. Thats about as "new years resolution" as I get.

I agree with you about that. New Years Resolutions for me represent an opportunity to say, "what were those things I intended to do but haven't done yet?" Then I can list them out and put them in perspective.

My major resolutions are:

1) Get myself in shape... I am not fat or anything but I dont feel up to par.
2) I am satisfied with the number of girls I am meeting but I need to up my quality and consistancy of the closes

Of course I also have financial goals but those are kinda secondary at this moment as I have a decent job.

Technically, every new day is the beginning of a 'New Year'

It all boils down to two things for me. Try to be more selective and try to be less dependent on the outcome.

New Years Resolution 1:

Continue my evolution into a man of value and abundance.

New Years Resolution 2:

Continue to work out and get into shape. I've fallen off this wagon a bit during the holiday season and need to get back on.

New Years Resolution 3:

Go on a European Vacation.
