Image Consultants/ Personal Stylist

Has anyone here ever used an image consultant? If so, what were your results? Good, Bad, Indifferent, waste of money?

The reason I am thinking about this is that I read a book. Basically, in the book it talks about the first 4 seconds of an encounter. This is before an opener, before a hello even. The author talks about three things that impact a persons sub-conscious evaluation of you. Physical beauty, Style/Grooming, and Body Language. Of course, in PUA parlance, these are all DHV's.

So out of these things, my two achilles heals are physical beauty (Im overweight) and Style/fashion which is something I have ALWAYS struggled with.

The weight thing, I'm getting there, already down 60 lbs, and I have another 60 to go. The style thing is something a bit different. I am just not inclined to take some random sales persons opinion to heart regarding what looks good on me. So I thought about perhaps investing in a professional. Wanted to know if anyone knew of a good one? Thoughts? Suggestions?

heres a thread i wrote a while back that i think still apply.

for the most part, i think that most stylists are crap, besides the ones that work in hollywood.

if i were you, i'd focus on losing weight before going shopping -- reason is because clothing is all about fit. if you buy new clothes now and then lose another 60 lbs, your clothes you bought will no longer fit properly.

one thing i do is look at movie stars, models and men's fashion magazines. i understand that for the most part, it is unrealistic to wear what they do, but what i get from them are ideas which get my mind going on different types of looks. also, i borrow their style and will try to mix in one or two pieces that i think look really cool. for example, this year, i'll be looking for a cardigan to wear to a nightclub...

see what i'm saying?

Surely you know some girl that has good fashion sense that would be willing to help you out? Maybe some friend of one of your family members?

I live really far away from my closest family, about 450mi. As far as chick friends and what not. Yes I do know some chicks who would be all for helping me out, but I don't know that their fashion sense is all that better than mine. So I do not necessarily want to play dress up with them. That's why I was thinking about hiring a professional. Someone who does this for a living might should at least have the know how to pull a consistent look together. Otherwise they would starve!

Coming from a guy that once shed upwards of 100lbs, I'd wait until you reach your weight goals before you start investing in your weardrobe. Hopefully, you'll shrink out of your clothes and you'll just have to buy more.
