A lil help with fitting clothes??

Postby Guest » Tue Aug 10, 2010 2:05 pm

Yea, I know I'm a fatass, and because of this, it is hard to find clothes that fit, not to mention that I don't really know how they're supposed to fit. too tight, I look like a sausage, too loose, and I look bigger than I am (usually, my clothes are too big) but err...help me out, willya?

Your posture should be fixed most importantly. Clothes have a way of looking different with better posture. Fix that first. Worry about style and fit of clothes next.

really? I thought I was doing good with my posture...sure it's not my preggo belly that's making me look like I have bad posture?
standing straight up, abs tight (as tight as they get) hands to the side...I was trying to look at the camera so that might have thrown me off a bit...

Honestly, the clothes are a pretty good fit. The shirts in pictures 3-5 are a little bit loose though. But for some reason, i think that if you bought a smaller size, it'll be too tight. Overall, not a bad fit.

Keep in mind that i wear very form fitting clothes, so when I say the shirts are too loose, that's according to my taste. To others, it may be just right.

Side rant:

you're not a huge guy, just not muscular. If you were that size but muscular (think bulky not ripped) you would be able to wear tight fitting clothes and still look great. The reality is that your "soft" so tight fitting clothes won't look good at all.

Having said that, if you toned up a bit and lose several pounds around the mid section, you can begin wearing form fitting clothes and get plenty of compliments...

nah, not the belly. The neck looks sloped forward, so that probably was due to the camera thing. The part that looked off to me was, the shoulders, they looked slouched.

Maybe it had something to do with the camera too ?

I found that when clothes look the best, especially on men, it's because of the shoulders. It looks like you have somewhat broad shoulders but for some reason it looks odd to me. The shirts overall don't look bad though.. I think though with different posture they would look totally different.

Thats fat? What are you, like 200 or so? Jesus, go on adkins for a month and you'll be slim. There are some much bigger guys around than you man. I outta know. I am one of them. Remember that body weight can be a huge DLV though, so I would really work on that. (Also, I just don't say that. I'm now 255 down from 310. My clothes don't even fit anymore, I feel like I'm wearing fucking clown clothes)

Cloths look good on you man, but let me give you a hint from one big guy to another, stay away from the horizontal stripes. They just make you look that much bigger. They are fine for beanpolls, but not for ANYONE with a belly.

I hear that a lot about the horizontal stripes, but when I wear them, It doesn't look bad. which is also a reason for posting that pic...does it make me look wider? because I can't tell if it does...

Coming from a guy that once weighted 270+ (I'm barely 6' too) I know exactly how hard it is to find clothes that didn't make me look fatter than I was. Here's what I remember doing:

1. Dark colors. People look fat because of the shadows that your physique creates when you wear clothes. You can see those shadows on lighter colored clothes, but it's harder to see with darker clothes. If the shirt with the horizontal stripes were darker, then it would look much better. Stay with muted colors like earth tones of brown and black along with beige and gray. Add color using accessories. Stay away from bright colors and shirts with a lot of designs on them, they just draw attention to your body.

2. Vertical stripes. Don't ever wear horizontal stripes. You may think you look good in them, but pretty much everyone else will think you look bigger. When you get vertical stripes, be sure to get a series of thin vertical stripes. They give you a better slimming effect than wider stripes do.

3. Under shirts. I would routinely wear super tight white t-shirts under my regular shirts to keep my shit from bouncing around and for a slimming effect. Remember, the under shirt must be tight and a relatively thin fabric. A lot of layers on a big guy make you look bigger. The look always looked good with polos and button ups.

4. Button up shirts always looked the best on me. Polos a distant second. Sweaters and t-shirts were a no-no.

5. Plaid was always hit or miss. Generally, the same rules apply...darker colors instead of lighter colors. You look much better in the black and white plaid than in the light green plaid.

Remember, the goal is not to hide your physique as much as it is to not draw attention to it.

Obviously, the best thing you can do is just lose the lbs. A couple of years ago, I shedded 100lbs through diet and cardio...tons of cardio. I've since put on about 40lbs but that's mostly from weight training and a protein and fat rich diet (if you cut the carbs in your diet to as close to zero as possible you'll shed weight like crazy). Still though, that won't necessarily solve the problem of getting clothes to fit right. I probably have more problems now finding clothes that fit properly than I did when I was heavier...albeit for different reasons.

If you can afford one, I suggest finding a reputable tailor.

I much prefer a fitted look and since I have a body type that differs from most, i have to get clothes taken in pretty often. It provides superior fit and makes you look much better...

For tshirts, wear shirts w/ the graphic on the chest. Draws attention away from the stomach and the silhouette of your body will blend in to the solid color of the rest of the shirt.
