Coming from a guy that once weighted 270+ (I'm barely 6' too) I know exactly how hard it is to find clothes that didn't make me look fatter than I was. Here's what I remember doing:
1. Dark colors. People look fat because of the shadows that your physique creates when you wear clothes. You can see those shadows on lighter colored clothes, but it's harder to see with darker clothes. If the shirt with the horizontal stripes were darker, then it would look much better. Stay with muted colors like earth tones of brown and black along with beige and gray. Add color using accessories. Stay away from bright colors and shirts with a lot of designs on them, they just draw attention to your body.
2. Vertical stripes. Don't ever wear horizontal stripes. You may think you look good in them, but pretty much everyone else will think you look bigger. When you get vertical stripes, be sure to get a series of thin vertical stripes. They give you a better slimming effect than wider stripes do.
3. Under shirts. I would routinely wear super tight white t-shirts under my regular shirts to keep my shit from bouncing around and for a slimming effect. Remember, the under shirt must be tight and a relatively thin fabric. A lot of layers on a big guy make you look bigger. The look always looked good with polos and button ups.
4. Button up shirts always looked the best on me. Polos a distant second. Sweaters and t-shirts were a no-no.
5. Plaid was always hit or miss. Generally, the same rules apply...darker colors instead of lighter colors. You look much better in the black and white plaid than in the light green plaid.
Remember, the goal is not to hide your physique as much as it is to not draw attention to it.
Obviously, the best thing you can do is just lose the lbs. A couple of years ago, I shedded 100lbs through diet and cardio...tons of cardio. I've since put on about 40lbs but that's mostly from weight training and a protein and fat rich diet (if you cut the carbs in your diet to as close to zero as possible you'll shed weight like crazy). Still though, that won't necessarily solve the problem of getting clothes to fit right. I probably have more problems now finding clothes that fit properly than I did when I was heavier...albeit for different reasons.
