I don't understand the hate on the dinner day 2. It's the same as getting drinks, but with food. I think there's something to say for a guy who can take a girl on a typical date and she still has fun. I see no problem in keeping the overall idea simple and then make it unique with smaller/easier things.
I see nothing wrong with it if you can get her to come to your house, you cook, but you make her help you. That would be half way pimp.

Go surf through all the dating profiles. The ones on Plenty of Fish ask the girls what their idea first date would be. I would say over half of the girls purposely list: Anything but Dinner usually followed by and a movie.

Girls don't want the traditional boring provider beta dinner date.

I love going out to dinner. But this is reserved for a girl that I am already banging.

Girls list "anything but dinner/movie" because it's typically awkward. I agree a movie is a terrible idea, but dinner can be more than acceptable if you're not awkward and interview-like formal. It's not the actual activity, it's what occurs while doing that activity. I don't see the point in trying to come up with super creative unique places to go/things to do or setting up wild ass scenarios and getting her to tag along.

To each their own, I guess. Just do what you're confident with.
