Recent study on six pack abs

Anything goes

I don't think a six pack is an indicator of being a good provider. There are many great athletes who don't have a six pack, and the ones who do have one receive very little performance benefit from having their abs so defined. The six pack is purely an aesthetic thing.

Most male models are thin, not ripped. Most FITNESS models are ripped.

I have asked many women what they like most on a guy. Most of them say arms/shoulders or chest. They like to feel strength when being hugged. They like to lay their head on a muscular chest. No woman I have asked has ever answered that she like abs.

There's almost a stigma attached to the six pack, like it's a perceived indicator of superficiality or narcissism.

I can't believe this is even being debated. Of course women prefer jacked men. Have you ever seen a hunky firefighter calender with guys at 15% bodyfat? Have you ever viewed a girls myspace page and seen it filled with pictures of average looking guys? No. BECAUSE THAT IS THE IDEAL. Now in real life women "prefer" regular guys because that is what is attainable. Just like guys with fat wives who look at playboy because the women are gorgeous, but they know there is no shot in real life so they pretend they like a "real" woman.

Beauty is not in the eye of the beholder. Beauty is in symmetry and low bodyfat %, not too skinny and not too big.

Friends you are deluding yourself if you think you can show a girl a pic of an average joe's body vs. an athlete or even just a fit body and she would choose the average guy for a fun, guilt free night. Doesn't matter what they say in some survey of teens. Let's survey some grown-ups and get some grown-up answers.

Lion, your opinions on the matter are purely superficial. The point that I think B R was trying to make is that in the end, just physical attraction won't win.

I'm sure at some point you fucked a hot girl with ZERO intention of moving any further in a relationship with her. Why? Because she was hot...or you were desperate...lol. That's superficial. Now, what reasons did you have (in the beginning) for dating your ex?

Fact of the matter is, looks will get you attention, but that's about it. You have to have more than that to succeed w/ women. Moral of the story is not to depend on that to make you happy. You know someone on this board who behaves in that manner and look where it's gotten him.

This wasn't a study about what people look for in a long term mate. This is a superficial study of pictures. So what does a superficial study of pictures have to do with dating anyone? Nothing.

Now do you have to have a 6-pack to get some tail? I would think this such an easy answer no one would even bother thinking about it. Of course you don't. Is a 6-pack an ideal of perfection and beauty? Absolutely. Do women like fit male bodies? Of course they do.

I think we're all on the same page here. Looks matter but are not the only component of one's ability to get some tail. Obviously, the better looking you are, the easier it is to get laid but that goes without saying.

The way I look at it, looks are one form of value. If you have value, you can get further with the girl - regardless if we're talking about sex-only or a relationship.

Value is a currency. When you have it, you get more compliance.

Obviously, you can have other kinds of value, which is why you see homely men with hot women all the time. Looks are no better or worse than any other kind of value. A guy with a lot of value who looks average will beat out a good looking guy with no personality in most instances.

And yes, six-pack abs are preferred by women. You should listen to Lion on this because he is correct. Good looks are:

Height
Proportion (face, body)
Symmetry
Body Fat %
Strength and health indicators
Skin
Masculine features (strong brow, strong jaw, etc)

and maybe some more things I can't think of at the minute.

I agree with lion 100000000%. He is right. This is not a study on dating or what is desired in a long term mate. It's a debate on which body types women prefer; six pack abs or no six pack.

I understand that there is preference involved, but generally speaking, women prefer men with a six pack. There's no arguing that. There is a reason why women's objects of desire (Calendar models, runway models, etc.) more often than not, all have six packs.

You don't see a cLendar with fat guys do you?

The whole argument of whether your girlfriend would want their boyfriend to Brad Pitt's body from Fight Club is totally worthless. [/quote]

I agreed with everything in your post except this line. Not because I made the point, but because I feel it to be a valid argument.

We're not talking about ltr's, but in one, all things equal, women would prefer that their bf have a six pack rather than not have one. It proves that women prefer fit guys over non fit guys, which is what this thread is about.

There's a difference between a fat guy and a fit guy who doesn't have extreme definition in his abs.

The qualities that Grimm mentioned are all valued to a degree. For example, women like tall men. However, women are more likely to find a 6'2" man more attractive than a 7'6" man. In the same sense, women are more likely to be attracted to Sawyer from Lost than a professional body builder. I have never met a woman who gets turned on by looking at professional body builders. I know they're out there, but they're the exception, not the rule.

For some reason there is a perception that caring about how you look is a feminine trait. I truly believe women love a guy who looks great without trying too hard. That's why messy hair is a popular style. Having ripped abs falls into that category. If you go too far to the extreme, it could possibly work against you.

You're right, there is a point of "diminishing returns." I think everyone understands that body builders are not attractive. Were talking about brad Pitt from fight club vs. Michael cera from Superbad.
