Being from Florida, I can comment on hurricanes, as I have been through several, most recently Charley, in 05 that destroyd port charoltte.
Charley came through on a thursday, and the next day, since the beach hotel i worked at was shut down, due to flooding, and damage, i didnt have to work. And my power would be out for the next week. FUN!
Went up to see the damage in port charlotte. I wish i had a camera, as its something that must be seen to believe.
However the people that lived there were dealing with it, and cleaning up as they knew how. I didnt see much govt intervention, except for 20 billion trucks from the power company.
All that to say, I call bullshit on the people of New Orleans. You live in an area with hurricanes, you live with it and deal with it. You know a few days out, its headed your way, and you prepare. The people in New Orleans are a joke.

New Orleans is overrun with cockroaches...sub humans that feed off of the scraps that our government forcibly takes from the producers and gives to the impoverished in the name of 'fairness.'

Good thoughts here. I, too, am from Florida and have seen first hand the devastation that can come from Mother Nature. I feel that it goes so much deeper into the human desire, in some ways, to be on top and in other instances the desire to not take ownership of anything. How many times does a hurricane have to blow, tear up ect a house before someone steps in and says sorry you cant build there anymore. Hurricane Ivan hit my home town and the street I lived on looked like, what I assume, a logging community looks like. You could not drive down the street along with no power, run on gas, water ect. Hell on earth. When I could drive down my street it was only one car at a time with trees and crap piled as high as the car I was driving. Thank God I was high at the time jk :) I know of at least two families personally who claimed flood, wind and water damage on there coastline house. So yes they went through hell lost a lot if not all of there shit THEN built it back better and stronger than before. Why??? Truthfully I don’t know nor do I care. I find it amusing how the system hurts some and benefits the others. Oh they got 1mil for the house..built another one on the same spot while others lost everything with no settlement.
I lived less than four hours from New Orleans when the hurricane hit there. What the press forgot to report where the busses that were lined up for the people of the lower 9th ward to leave. They chose to stay. Also, everyone knew it was coming. What were they thinking?? I think it is a great idea to fire off rounds at the people who are trying to help...wtf??? Some of these people are the cockroaches of our society. They don’t take actions to protect themselves or those around them. Nothing is there fault. At this time I was working at a bank and would receive calls from Louisiana and on my life this is what happened. ‘Am south bank how may I help you?’ I would say. Oh I heard the song ‘shake you laffy taffy’ was popular at the time. ‘Where is my fema check?’ All they wanted to know is where is MY money? Your money? Why did your dumb ass stay there? I digress.
I don’t know who to blame. I just wonder when Americans will stand up and say enough of this bullshit. Quit taking my money and giving it to someone else. Quit rewarding those who choose to do what they will then expect those who did the right thing to bail your happy ass out.

Why is it right for us to stereotype an entire city for the things that only a few of their people have done? Sure there was looting in new orleans, sure there was crazy people shooting rescuers, but there were also people who reached out to help. There is only one side of the story being told here. Until someone gives me a picture of both sides I find this whole arguement completely invalid and a very negative view of people. Did hating people ever make anyone real friends? I refuse to focus on something so negative and unrealistic. Since when has mainstream news focused on the positive? Negative is more interesting and gets them more viewers. Where did you guys get your info? hmmm probably mainstream news...

I say thank god for the good Mexicans that showed up to rebuld their city while the sorry *********** that lived there all ran for Houston and Dallas for free handouts. I hope they put taco stands on every corner and rename it: "NUEVO New Orleans"

What are you talking about? The mainstream media has barely covered the Fargo flooding, barely. But, Katrina was all over the fucking news for MONTHS on end. It spawned movies of the social injustice that occurred there. It put a black eye on the Bush Administration when the real blame lay at the local level (run by Dems by the way).

You're right, but what you're pointing out is just an obvious flaw in human nature, it has nothing to do with our government or left or right or any one group of people in any one city.
The #1 biggest predictor of success in any system is a proactive mentality.
90% of the people on this planet are going to be sheep, no matter how many freedoms they have. Those people just need somebody to tell them what to do. Human nature. That's all they're comfortable with. Tell them they live in a great nation that gives them the freedom to achieve anything they want (and I firmly believe that they do), and they'll smile, but somewhere inside they're telling themselves "no thanks." All they want to do is go home, sit on their couch, watch TV, and watch the world go by in their non-confrontational shells.
The other 10% take responsibility for themselves (and for the other 90%, incidentally). They rise to the top like cream, in any society, under any system.
It's just the way of the jungle.
If you're part of the 10%, don't be pissed about the fact, be happy about it. It means you're a leader, which means you're in charge. You can easily put the other 90% to work for you and make way more money than you think.
I don't think that makes the 10% better than the 90 in any way. I just think that's the way social systems naturally set themselves up.

I dunno Grimm.
I don't necessarily buy into the concept that most people are waiting to be told what to do by nature. I think they become that because society has created a structure that alters the way people think.
