Besides hygeine, I think fahsion and style is one of the most important aspects of the game. I have met quite a few guys from the community and for the most part, everyone's fashion is pretty unique. This post is intended for the guys who feel that they lack fashion sense and have no style. I don't sit here and claim that I have the best style, nor am I a fahsion columnist, but many from the boards can vouch that my style is unique, and I consistenly get compliments from both men and women. These guidelines are some things that worked for me; they may or may not work for you. Ultimately, what's most important is that if YOU are comfortable,(psychologically, physiologically) and confident, than thats all that matters..you can rock anything!!
Choose a style that is congruent to your game/personality. Your style should be an expression of who you are, an extension of your individuality. If you're fun and outgoing, your style should reflect that. Love hip-hop/rap and are into the urban lifestyle? Then maybe you should dress like Kanye West. Are you a jock? Then maybe the preppy style is for you...catch my drift? I think this is extremely important because I believe that by wearing something that expresses your personality, you subcommunicate who you are.
Wear clothes that fit. I have seen soo many people wear clothes that just dont fit. Believe me when I say that when you wear your size, you will look exponentially better. If youre a 1x, wear a 1x, dont opt for 3x, it'll look baggy and unappealing. Same goes for the opposite; don't wear clothes that are too tight, no one wants to see your rolls through your shirt! I understand that everyone has a differente body type; choose peices of clothing that will suit your body type. If youre 300 lbs of fat, then don't wear a muscle shirt. Weigh 125? Don't wear an extra long T. This doesn't exactly apply to the point, but get in shape. If you're overweight, hit the gym and lose a few pounds. Too skinny? Hit the gym and gain a few pounds. One of the reasons why Brad Pitt looks so good (besides the fact that he has a stylist) is because he has a nice body that is accentuated by his clothes. I'm not saying that you have to look like a fitness model, but just into better shape.
Peacocking. Now this is an interesting bullet point! I truly feel that you don't have to peacock to be successful. I use a strategy called subtle peacocking. Basically, instead of wearing a clown suit or goggles, it's peacocking, yet you are still in the boundaries of what is considered socially acceptable. What I usually do is have one or two peices of my outfit that stands out. For example, a purple-ish blue paisley patterned tie. A unique jacket or shirt. A cool looking scarf. Trendy glasses. See where i'm going? Your outfit makes you socially acceptable (read as not try hard or weird) and these items are just enough to make you stand out from the mass.
Accessories. There's this huge belief that you must accessorize to be a good PUA, that's crap. NOT true. I will tell you that my personal opinion on accessories is that less is more. Bracelets from your wrist to your elbows, 3-4 necklaces, rings on every finger..that just makes you look like an idiot, looking like Mr. T. When was Mr. T considered attractive? When I go out, I only wear one necklace, 2 bracelets and a watch (looking for some rings, know of a place?); but once again I am simple, my style is simple. Generally speaking, I think that 1-2 bracelets per arm, 1-2 rings per hand (I would opt for the thumb or forefinger), a necklace and a watch are plenty of accessories to express your individuality. Another thing that has worked for me is to wear accessories that DHV. My rosary from the Vatican, in which I can go into an anecdote of my travels in Italy (not true, but sounds good :P). My pink breast cancer bracelet, my red D.A.R.E bracelet, my expensive watch. Can you see how all of these DHV or creates an opportunity to?
Do NOT wear skinny jeans; they were not designed for men. Generally speaking, men have bigger legs, and skinny jeans do not do you any good. I prefer boot cut or straight leg, these define my figure and fits my style best. Will these work for you? maybe, go shopping and see!
Nut huggers. NO! NO! NO! Please do not wear these. Some guys from the community will disagree because women, no doubt, check out your package, but it's just not a good look. I don't think women find it sexy either. That's my personal opinion, take it for what it is.
When youre out, find a female that you think you is your type and open her with, "Hey, my friend asked me to help revamp his style. You look like a fashionable girl, what do you suggest? Or what do you think looks good on a man?" This is almost garunteed to hook. Why? youre talking to girl about fashion, enough said. Take some notes and go shopping for what she says she likes/dislikes on a guy. Be sure that what she suggests is congruent to your style. If you're going for a rocker look and she said she likes guys who wear Abercrombie polos w/ a popped collar, you probably shouldn't buy it. When shopping, go find a female sales associate and ask for her opinion. It's a great way to get an outside, and more importantly, a female perspective of what looks good on you. In most stores, they don't make commission, they only get more hours if they help people...take her recommendations and run with it, just be sure that what she suggest is congruent with your style/personality. An added benefit is that you're talking to a female. Try to game her...this will give you some experience with women. Just keep in mind that she is technically a "hired gun" so your material may have a different outcome when used on a regular girl...there are a few benefits by asking a girl for adivce: you opened a girl and are getting practice, you're getting what women think is attractive/sexy and you hone in on what looks good on you from women that is your type...
And finally, wear something thats appropriate for the venue/occasion, something socially acceptable. I don't want to get into a forum fight over this; i've read numerous posts that say, "You can wear whatever you want if you're confident enough and if your game is tight enough." In theory, that is true, but why fight an uphill battle? By wearing something ridiculous, you only create an opportunity for women/men to hate and for girls you're gaming to shit test you. Would you wear a tuxedo to Sherlock's? Or shorts and a t-shirt to a wedding? Have some common sense! There was one time I wore a nice vest, dress shirt w/a tie, jeans and dress shoes to Sherlock's and felt out of place. Why? I was getting looks, not because I looked good (whiched I did), but it was more of a, "Why is he wearing that here?" I was overdressed. This fucked with my head and I was unable to open. Now if I was in uptown, I would've been socially acceptable within the boundaries.
Remember, don't worry what everone else is thinking about your outfit. Wear what's comfortable and what makes you feel confident; this will show when you game a girl.
If you have anyting to add, feel free to do so!!
