Yeah, I only see that if I drive really gently on the interstate for extended lenghts of time. When filling up the tank costs between 55 and 65, and you do it twice a week... you really start to notice how much driving you do!

Sounds like mine, tho I think I do better than 18mpg on long highway runs...

4.4l BMW V8. Puts a hell of a lot of torque to the ground, but at a huge cost!

I have seen as high as 33mpg on my 3.2l Benz V6, but then it's a much lighter car also... and only making about 225 ft-lbs of torque at the crank :-(
