Fashion for larger men

Q: I have overdeveloped many of the muscles in my body. I am five feet eleven, and my chest measures forty-six inches relaxed. I have a long torso. My inseam is thirty-one inches, and I have a thirty-four-inch waist. I cannot find any designer clothing that looks good on me. Should I break down and have all my clothing tailored, or are there designers I don’t know about who make fashionable cuts that will not break my bank account?

A: One of the principal differences between designer clothing and other clothing is designers spend a lot of money on advertising and image. This does not directly improve your looks. It doesn’t even indirectly improve your looks. All designers have a body they design for: This is the fit model. Some designers, such as Calvin Klein, use a fit model who is a bit more buff than others, so these designers may better suit more muscular men. But no designer uses a fit model resembling Henry Rollins, so if you are a real muscleman you may want to consider working with a tailor. You can always discuss “fashionable cuts” with him, but be warned: Fashionable cuts are usually created with lithe types in mind. You will probably look better in more traditional styles than in a high-roll five-button suit.

Thanks for this... I'm the henry rollins type :) more fat than muscle at the moment, but losing that pretty quickly even after I do tho I've still got that rollins body type. If any one has any recommendations on good/affordable local tailors, let me know. I am definitely going to need one w/ my big ass chest and frame ;)

I would say tailor your stuff. I remember some rich guy saying how if you can't afford high dollar stuff buy it off the rack and have it tailored. He was talking about a suit but this applies to any type of clothing. If I wasn't so lazy I would have everything I owned tailored. Well I guess it comes down to an expense issue as well.

Some guy at metropark gave me a card for his tailor. He was saying the tailor did stuff for only 5 bucks. Hrmm that seeems really cheap.

I remember my friend got all his pants tailored for only 10 dollars each. They did an awesome job. It was in Las Colinas though.

finding a good tailor at decent prices is hard. I have tried a few and am happy with none, since i moved to OK. I have a bomb tailor in Detroit though. :(

Alas the tailor comment is true! It really does help especially for fat ass' like myself
