I may not have used the term "douche bag". A woman could take a offense to that term coming from a guy she's never met. Plus I don't generally think it's healthy to totally rip another persons appearance who I don't know to a person I don't know especially when the rippie is real overweight already. She may feel sorry for the guy. Probably a more high percentage way to play that situation , what I do, would be something like say "that guy almost pushed me in to" Then based on her reaction you have some options . If she doesn't say anything back but just kind of looks at you hopefully you can look away and say something like "I didn't mean to get THAT close to you" you can say it with an expression that leaves her wondering, does he think I'm ugly now that he sees me close. Or your expression could be one that the message portrays a little more innocent joke type statement. When you can make girls wonder what you are thinking about them you have an advantage.
Ideally, after you say "that guy almost pushed me in to you" she would say "thats ok" then you could ask "what's your opinion of the way he styles his collar?". Then hopefully youve got a conversation going. Another thing that can help get a womans attention versus average guys is if you can structure your first few sentences a little proper. I.E. the way I have that question posed is more catchey than "what do you think about his collar" b/c it makes you look a little smarter.
I'm not saying what you did won't be effective 50% of the time, but it's a little more high risk ,minimal reward tactic in my opinion.
