Fashion Retard

Postby Muk » Tue Apr 08, 2008 1:15 am

so....hmm...I was hoping Guillie would pick my number, but, whatever...

I hate to ask, but I seriously need help with fashion. is there anyone in Fort worth that wouldn't mind helping a guy out?? I have a few things working aginst me...

1: I'm Black, might be different picking out clothes for me. clothes that work for white guys (or pretty much any other race) might not work for me, my target aren't necessarily white girls, but basically girls who aren't ghetto (which btw, excludes some white girls too)

2: I'm a little heavy...not that I'm a fatass, but I'm not a small guy, I'm 6'2, 240lbs ( I am trying to work on this, but my schedule conflicts with what I want to do...might just go back to my old gym I've only just recently quit my gym because I don't want to be obligated under contract for $2k of gym membership)

3: I'm not exactly rich, I can scrounge up a few hundred bucks, but...y'know...

Anyone up for the challenge??

if I were you I would go a bit dressy casual, like get a fly sports coat, and a button up shirt. You being big I don't think would really be that big of a deal. I mean I can't give you a lot of advice without knowing what you look like and what you usually wear but generally have you heard that saying "Dress for the job you want" Well you have to a DateDemon original "Dress for the girl you want" lol. So if you want rockstar groupies dress as a rockstar lol but if you want girls that aren't ghetto dress a little more sophisticated and refined. I am not saying go around in a tux but you can wear like some dressy casual stuff that will look good and be fine for everyday activities.

first off, why are you dropping so much on a gym membership? Find a hardcore, hammerhead gym and get fucking wrecked every day.

If you have cable or sattelite, watch "style". Its all you need to know.

For style I would recomend magazines. I have seen alot of upscale "black" magazines that feature guys in fasion forward gear. The actual labels of the clothes dont matter as much as the style it self. Go to a Barns and Noble and go to the magazine section. Take a look at what guys your size and tone(your blackness level,[i hope that dosnt come across bad]) are wearing. I know that jayZ wears alot of good looking stuff whenever he's in GQ. Maybey you could tone down a "gangster look", ie. suit without the cane and three digit rings with no tie. Versatility is what i look for in shoes, mewelry, and jeans. Alot of shirts that I own completely set the tone for the outfit. While a button down long sleeve shirt says, classy guy with taste, the same outfit with a t-shirt that has a cool logo or slogan on it says party guy thats down for what ever. Dont be affraid to try stuff on. Alot of guys dont take the time to check the fit(very important). Also an XL in one brand might not fit the same as an XL in another. My upcoming schedule is wrecked or I would volunteer to help you, I love shopping. Good luck!

I am new.

This is what I learned so far.
Get something that fits you, not something that is too large for comfort.

ie. I use to buy XL Polo shirts and it is very comfortable to wear, but I figured out I actually wear a M size Polo shirt and the correct size shirt looks better on me.

I actually have looked at the magazines...they're full of skinny/muscle dudes...not looking forward to showing off my tits in "too-tight" shirts...

A shirt that is the proper fit is a key. I'd recommend finding a good tailor first and foremost. They really aren't that expensive.

Next hit up Ross, Marshalls, Burlington Coat Factory.

They have designer clothes for cheap. Of course the clothes might not fit extremely well, but I bought some Kenneth Cole Business suit pants there that were a little bigger, for like $12, I went to my tailor and it cost me $14 to get her to tailor them. All in all I would say $26 for a pair of $80 to $90 pants isn't bad. Button Shirts you can do the same way.

T-shirts.... youre on your own. I would also recommend push ups if you don't like your "tits".... breast augmentation maybe?

***Edit***

BTW, on button up shirts I would recommend shirts without front pockets. It gives the shirt a cleaner look.... Express sells these, and you can get 3 for about $90 if you catch a sell. or 1 for $40, start slow.

Also, depending on your skin tone (light or dark) you should pick a color that won't wash you out. Express shirts are plain enough for business, casual wear, and I think they are pretty comfortable.

The t-shirts are pretty good too. Ebay also has some good cheap designer stuff. I bought a Versace shirt on there for like $40.

What style do you tend to gravitate towards? Post links to pictures.

Guy is really subjecting himself to criticism huh... Sometimes we need to break ourselves down or be broken down by someone else before we can build ourselves back up or move forward.

I'd recommend a diet too.

As for the thrifty shopping and tailor idea I fully concur. I find that I can get a good deal on a shirt that doesn't quite fit right and then get it tailored and it looks a ton better than some really nice shirt I get that is my size but not tailored. The same with pants or anything else. I even get my socks tailored (har har).

Any investment we make in ourselves is a great investment. Never be afraid to see a doctor about self-improvement. Just don't go all Michael Jackson on us.
No, No, that's the left. We want the good one.

He is. I applaud him for that.

Style is one thing, and man boobs aren't the end of the world, yet if he even doubts, for even a second, that women look at his man boobs in a negative light, they will. As you said, "an investment is ourselves is a great investment." I whole heartedly agree.

Working out will make you feel ten times better.

I wish others had the guts to stand up and ask for this type of critisism.

This is so true. I have noticed that if a woman has a flaw and she acts like it's nothing then I accept it and sometimes even think it's cute or attractive or at least not a big deal. A different woman could have the same flaw and be insecure about it and it will seem unattractive.

It's like if one girl burps and then laughs about it, it's cute. If another girl burps and then acts all embarrassed about it, it's kind of gross.

Or a better example would be a guy I knew that had a fake tooth that he could pop in and out with his tongue. When he was around girls he would just say, "hey check out my fake tooth" and pop it out. It never seemed to bother the girls because he was so secure with it.

Even though I know this to be true, I struggle with acting the same way in regard to my own flaws.

The bottom line is, if you don't fix something you feel is a flaw in yourself, learn to embrace it.
