What the fuck happened?

I'm pretty new to the game. When I met this girl, in fact, I didn't even know about the community or anything. There were definate IOI when we would see each other in person. When I got her number I was maybe a week into this shit. I wasn't even pursuing this girl very seriously. I just wanted to keep her number in the rotation for practice.

I have texted her once to try out a routine I had heard about. We texted back and forth, a flirty nice interaction, it was a success. Or so I thought. I texted her maybe a month later, just to say hi. She replied.

Hadn't seen her in person in a long while, and also, I wanted some practice. So tonight I decided to call her. But she pretended as though she didn't know who I was. I asked "Is this *HB Name*?" She said I had the wrong number. Of course, in this day and age nobody dials numbers anymore, they're all stored in our phone/caller ids. I was shocked. I immediately replied to one of her text messages about it. No reply. I called back like 15 minutes later. This time she doesn't pick up.

I can't for the life of me imagine what went wrong. I can only think of one instance where I sort of did a freeze-out on her in person, but the next time we saw each other everything seemed cool. It can't be that I came on too strong. I have no idea why this girl would pull this kind of shit. Perhaps I never transmitted enough interest? But then why would she go through all this trouble?

What should I do? Should I confront her about it in person? Try calling again later? Ignore her the next time I see her? This just doesn't make any sense to me.

my guess is you kind of spread it out too far and she flat out lost interest? Weeks of nothing but texts can do that...trust me : /

Maybe.......but still, this is still a strange reaction. Like I would expect her to do something like this if I was being crazy persistent. If she thought I wasn't interested in her sexually, wouldn't she just toss me in the friend zone? We always got along in person it seemed (except the night I met her when she kept hitting me).

Totally. But what to do if I run into her in person? I was thinking before of ignoring her, but maybe that'll make it seem like she was too big of a deal to me. Maybe I should pretend like nothing ever happened? Don't open her, but if we happen to cross paths say hi and be friendly, but don't go out of my way to say hi to her. What do you guys think?

Early in the MM book, it's suggested to always take the "it's no big deal" approach to damn near everything. Just be cool, and if you want to bring it up...do something casual like

You were. You kept her number quite a while and the started trying to contact her after she'd deleted your number. Why would a guy who has a lot going on contact a girl he'd met 6 weeks ago? If you were really interested in her, take her out sooner.

Personally, I make it a point to tell girls I'm form (other town), and that maybe I'll call them next time I'm in (town).

And yet, I still get more flakes than Tony the Tiger.

I think waiting a month is a mistake. You got downgraded from "That guy Fuzz who was pretty cool" to "some guy who texts me funny stuff sometimes" and then after a month goes by, she might have deleted your number. When you call out of the blue, you don't go in the "friend zone" because she has no idea who you are. You might have become "some random guy I made the mistake of giving my number to." And then after you called perhaps she saved your number as "don't answer". Through no real fault of your own.

If you see her, she might remember Fuzz the cool guy. Say hi and be friendly, and don't bring up the fact that you tried to call her.

Appreciate all the input and will keep all this in mind, but this turned out to be a false alarm. She didn't answer the phone that night. We are on speaking terms again. Sorry everybody.
