I just had to get this in, although I am at work. This is my first field report.
Quick history: Moved to Dallas 2 years ago. Before that, I was in college from 99 - 04 in Denton. Have been on DD's list since 2001( hard to believe). Had some success in college with approaching, but have slipped back to being AFC since moving. I suffer from being an info-addict without taking action.

Recently (after reading The Game) trying to get my stuff back in order. I'm glad I found this community for support.

I got a number close last night. Oddly, it was someone I knew in college, but didn't recognize her (she lost weight and is now a skinny 7.5 artsy/mod girl - the kind I like).

The event was a social networking group for advertising and marketing people -- mostly in their 20s & 30s. One tip, it makes it much easier to talk to people at events that it is understood people are there to network, but I guess the flip side is people are not as sexually charged as a typical trendy bar situation.

I digress. Anyway, I went in alone (coworkers were coming later) and sat at a table with two HBs, one was the only 8 in the room. I struck up a conversation about the normal boring stuff, so where do you work, what do you do for that agency (a mistake). The conversation was going nowhere, but I really wasn't that attracted anyway. One was nice, the other I could tell was dismissive. She would have been perfect to CF on, but my mind was blank. She wasn't giving me any ammo (gotta be prepared I know).

Trying to adjust to my environment and new found knowledge, I get up without even saying goodbye and I decide to "up my social value" by approaching the other sets in the room - groups of girls and guys. I notice the 8 start to perk up a bit with a curious look on her face. After a few rounds, I see them outside, I say something and the 8 says they are about to go.

It was pretty early in the event. I guess she wasn't getting enough attention. Anyway, that is not the point of my story, and she wasn't the number I got.

I approach four - five more sets with everyone being quite responsive. I talk to people in relationships, groups of guys, not hot girls. I noticed the mod girl earlier in the night and try to find a way to meet her.
This paid off because the hottest girl there thought I knew a guy she knew because I was talking to him, so she opened me. I thought she was giving IOIs, but she was with her finance (she didn't volunteer this info). Later she ended up saying I was the coolest guy there to my coworkers.

Upon further investigation, I realize she is a fag hag and I decide to use her male friend as a pivot.

"I like your tattoos" - Me
He has a right arm sleeve tattoo.

"Really? Blah, blah, blah. They are for good luck."
"Hi. I'm (don't remember)." - Him

He introduces me to the mod girl. She said I had classes in college with her and my mouth drops ( circa 2001 - 2004).

More talk. Blah . Blah . Blah. More talk.

"I'm about to leave. How can I talk to you again?" - Me
"What's your number? I'll call it." - Her

"Cool. We can reminisce about college" - Me

She calls it . Done deal.

So yeah. Not a lot of CF or anything. But this last night did help me improve and reaffirm some things that I had learned.

I think the biggest thing I learned was using pivots. If I could have done anything differently, I should have started speaking to other people first, after noticing the 8 to get her interest up. Secondly, I should have busted her used a neg. Plus I really need to learn some default material. I'm good at the straight forward questions and stuff, but that won't work for HBs 8+.
