"In laboratory experiments, effects of DDT include hepatic and central nervous system toxicity, estrogenic and antiandrogenic effects, and possible carcinogenicity. Some epidemiologic evidence suggests that DDT exposure increases preterm delivery and small-for-gestational-age births and shortens the duration of lactation; these conditions could increase the rate of infant deaths and thus attenuate any benefits on mortality rates from a reduction in malaria. They have said almost everything causes cancer....so it is hard to say what really does and doesn't cause cancer, even in what I cited above, it seems to sit on the fence at times... But the thing is, that DDT is a synthetic pesticide. And I couldn't image any kind of synthetic chemical pesticide being good for your health, especially inhaling large amounts of it.
You ingest synthetic pesticides all day in your food.

Regardless, I've been doing a lot of reading on new evidence that suggests that cancer is entirely man made.

The most compelling evidence is that the oldest mummies in human history never had any signs of cancer of any type. As time moved forward, human remains started showing more and more signs of cancer. Since no one really knows what causes cancer, it's very possible that we've just created a toxic environment to live in.

Scary thought, but probably very true.

hmm...dunno about that...
not that I really looked into it or anything...
John Adams' Daughter had breast cancer
and that was the late 1700's
Before we had pesticides or heavy industry
sounds interesting enough, though

Dude. I'm talking about ancient civilizations bro. There were plenty of toxins even in the 1700s.

Finesse, most of what I've read has been random tid bits from studies and what not. I'll try to scrap up the article that got me started reading about this new theory.

Here's a recent study: http://www.manchester.ac.uk/aboutus/news/display/?id=6243. A link to a Nature article is at the bottom.

It's not certain that it DIDN'T exist, but it definitely makes sense that there were an several orders of magnitude fewer incidents of cancer.

Interesting article about the intersection of ignorance and profiteering in the medical industry.

A lot procedures are completely and totally unnecessary, but lazy, ignorant, pussies of the world demand that SOMETHING BE DONE.

Who's to blame? The hospitals that fulfill the useless demands of consumers OR consumers that request useless services?
