I really enjoyed His Dark Materials Trilogy by Philip Pullman. The trilogy consists of The Golden Compass; The Subtle Knife; and The Amber Spyglass. It is pretty much a series similar to Harry Potter, but it is a million times better. They made a movie out of the first book a couple years back, but it was pretty shitty and didn't stay faithful to the book (big surprise there). I have all 3 books on my bookshelf, so if you want to borrow em, just let me know.
Are those the books that try to convert children to Atheism? I remember there being a huge uproar from Christians when The Golden Compass was in theaters.
Anything by Chuck Palahniuk (he wrote Fight Club and Choke...both of which I recommend).
I know everybody here saw Fight Club. I also saw Choke and wished I read the book instead. I read Pygmy, which was really good, although difficult to read and a little silly because it was written entirely in broken English.
