I read last night about a concept called sexual stereotyping which directly applies to what BR just said and ended up answering my own question.
For years there has been a stereotype that smart people wear glasses. The rock stars wear leather, That rappers and gangsta's have saggy pants, the nice guy (read AFC) wears jeans and a tee, etc.... Women are bombarded with this stereotyping over and over and over again. By the time they are of legal age, these stereotypes are ingrained into their subconscious.
So if you adapt your style (fashion) to mimic a stereotype she finds attractive, then you are already way ahead of the game. Each piece of apparel you own makes a statement either for a sexual stereotype (increasing attraction) or a non-sexual stereotype (decreasing attraction).
So if you want to plug into the sexual sterotype of the smart guy, wear glasses that make a strong statement. That is the difference between BR's glasses and my own. BR's glasses are bold, they make a strong statement. Mine are wire-rimmed and designed to blend in.
If you want to present the sexual stereotype of an athlete per say, then you wouldn't wear glasses, when was the last time you saw an iconic athlete rocking a pair of glasses? You don't see this because it's not part of the sexual stereotype.
actually, style contrast can be used effectively to generate attraction, if not, then at the very least, interest.
Imagine that youre dressed liked a bad boy or rockstar and you approache a girl. she has a stereotype ingrained in her mind of who you should be. Then she finds out that you're in corporate law, have a juris doctorate degree, and enjoy giving legal advice pro bono.
Or you're wearing "indie" clothes and skinny jeans you picked up at the local salvation army but then she finds out That youre a stock broker who works on wall street, but has selfless support for non-profit organizations that help the poor. You clearly do not match the stereotype of what your style speaks to.
This would intRigue the hell out of girls. Girls would wonder who is this guy? What else don't I know about him? He's a mystery, I WANT to know more...!!
Now tread carefully with this technique. You can easily come off as incongruent or try hard, so you have to really put some thought into this.
I have always believed that your style should be an extension of your personality and still do, but I believe that this is a great concept. You shouldn't let style and fashion confine you, but an expression of who you are...
