University of Texas - College Football

Anything goes
I stopped watching after the 6th horse collar and 12th face mask....
Maybe you'll remember this, being a Texas fan. This is the last time we played, all the way back in 1991. UT has refused a rematch after this game, which is understandable but unfortunate.

Highlights -

The game is at the Cotton Bowl.

1:28 - The 'canes have come out to watch the UT players exit the ramp, taunting them.

1:52 - Opening kickoff - Miami knocks UT kick returner out of the game. Texas is intimidated. Game is over at this point imo.

3:59 - Just listen to the commentator. That says it all.

5:57 - 2nd half... Canes take their opening kickoff 50 yards

7:11 - Hill catches touchdown pass, and runs in to the Longhorns dressing room tunnel. He comes out with "guns blazing"

7:44 - "We mess with Texas" banner

202 penalty yards for Miami (more than Texas' total offensive yards)

Final score 46-3 to Miami

It's no wonder everyone else hates the U. Oh well, that's my Canes.

Actually I don't, I was 6. But hey, if you call that sportsmanship, then Miami was a perfect match for you.

I didn't know we played football to see who was the most sportsman-like, I always thought we just tried to score more points than the other team.

In that case maybe they should stick to a gentleman's sport at UT...like tennis. The reason they got shit on so bad was because Texas was trash talking like nobody's business before the game.

I think this experience does explain why Texas refuses to play anybody. They tried that once, didn't work out too well for them.

Don't pick on my Texas Tech Red Raiders! We were a dynamite team when Harrell and Crabtree were still in school. Tech would have won that game had it not been for Taylor Potts' terrible performance. Sheffield should be the starter, but he threw a interception in tryouts and Potts didn't. Consider this a rebuilding year for them.

As for Texas, I wholeheartedly agree that Texas is overrated. The fact of the matter is that The University of Texas is a cash cow. They have tons of money, each game (home or away) brings in substantial revenue, and they have enough alumni support that they can afford and profit off a Longhorn Network.

I don't think the Big 12 is as terrible as you see it, Bull Run. Granted, we have a lot of low-level teams in the conference, but that's all because of location and historic rivalry.

The conference is made up of Texas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, A&M, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Kansas State, and Iowa State.

The Big 12 has the second most National Championships under its belt (16). SEC has 17. The only reason the Big 12 looks like a shitty conference is because they have a shitty television deal. The reason Colorado and Nebraska are joining other conferences is just that...money. When the rest of the Big 12 merge in to other conferences (Texas will probably do something gay like go independent), super conferences will be able to get better TV deals which will generate more money for all which improves recruiting.

They might not be the Big 12 for much longer, but most of the schools shouldn't be written off. Everyone goes through bad years.

Without UT, OU, and Nebraska (of old, but they're coming back) then there would be no one worth much in the conference.

As for the number of championships, that is an impressive statistic and at first blush I would not have expected this to be the case (I actually expected the Ivy League to have the most and they do dating back to 1869). BUT, when you consider how shitty college football is at picking the best teams to play in the championship game then you can see why they have so many championships. If you have 2 or 3 great teams and the rest are shitty, then the odds are that you'll have more cases where a team runs the table and gets in the championship game. This is just not the case in the Big 10 or SEC. Every year both conferences beat the shit out of each other, very often losing a game here or there, only to get shut out of the championship game because they lost one game to a great team instead of running the table on a much of mediocre teams.

The truth is that this will always be the case as long as there is no playoff system. It is a school's best interest to play poor competition and destroy them than it is for them to play good teams and beat them in close games. I find it to be sad and silly to see a great program such as UT playing Florida Atlantic or Alabama playing Duke just to pad their schedule.

Right on. It works both ways though, like say Ohio State, Alabama, and Texas all go undefeated. Well, then Ohio State and Alabama will be playing for the title and Texas does not. Why? Strength of schedule. Look what happens to Boise every year.

I agree that a playoff would be cool, and it wouldn't surprise me if we end up with a 'plus one' (four team) playoff system once the BCS contract is up. One cool thing about college ball though is all the bowls.

I think it would all work out in the end if the BCS was revamped. Rankings and bowl selections are so esoteric...it could be a 'draw the short straw' type bullshit for all we know.

I thought this was hilarious, but the more I look at it, it looks like a Boba Fett helmet more...

Blown out by UCLA, barely made it past Texas Tech, and now a loss to OU (although it was pretty close...but that's what rivaliries bring)...

Anyway, point is this:

I was right.

The Bull is always right ;)

The score makes it look pretty close, but it was OU domination until the 4th...and UT didn't step it up in the 4th...OU just fucked around.
