Insanity Workout

Anything goes

Lion, I never said that Justus should keep his caloies in check. It's understood that he needs excess calories. I'm saying the source of the calories should come from good foods (not mac n cheese) with a strong emphasis on protien to build muscle.

If I remember correctly, Insanity is high intensity interval training. You bust your ass in that workout. You get short breaks and long periods of high intensity workout. It is not for the timid.

I recommend P90X. You can go as hard as you want, and it mixes resistance training, plyometrics, yoga, and kenpo. On all resistance days you do the Ab Ripper X workout, which is a great ab workout. You won't believe how solid your core will be.

I usually try and eat annies organic mac n cheese. Do you guys think that still isn't healthy? From the nutrition facts on the side it looks pretty get except for the sodium count. But I'm not really sure how to read the health facts either.

The problem with mac and cheese is that it isn't a real food. You can't go to the mac and cheese tree and pick some mac and cheese to eat. It isn't good for you. Even if it's "organic", which is just a label to sell it at a higher price. On the other hand, I think it's ok for you, justus, to eat it mixed with Tuna. It isn't your best option but for your goals it isn't detrimental and may even be helpful.

I'm assuming that when you eat this, that you eat the entire box (and prob some additional food items). For the entire box, you will be consuming 700 calories, which is alot. Then the sat fats and sodium is off the charts! The one benefit I see is that you'll get some vitamins and 25g of protien.

For 700 calories, you can prob be eating something that is healthier, more satisfying and more conducive to your goals (of building muscle).

For example: a salad and 12 oz. of grilled chicken breast. Just for the chicken breast, that's 84g of protien at only approximately 360 calories.

My point is that if you choose healthier options, you can eat more foods that are more beneficial to building muscle.

I will chime in now that I have actually seen some results at the gym. I have tried numerous half ass attempts in my life to look like Tyler and have failed miserably.

I did not look at the insanity workout.

For skinny people like myself, Justus, and Lion in his prebulk stage gaining muscle mass is very hard and takes tremendous dedication. IMO it is maybe 100-500% harder for us to look good compared to a guy who already has some natural bulk or fatness on his frame.

The very first thing you have to be willing to do is work your ass off at the gym. When you get home and take a shower if you can barely even soap yourself off because your arms don't want to work then you are headed in the right direction. If you can easily soap yourself off you are not doing the gym part correctly. I struggled with this for years because I would just go half ass it at the gym and not really know what I was doing. Luckily this time around I had Lion and Prodigy to set me straight.

If you are not willing to devote that much work at the gym I would seriously reconsider. You should really just stay at home. I know that is horrible advise but seriously your results are going to be barely noticeable.

The second thing you must be willing to do and is JUST AS IMPORTANT as working out is getting the correct amount of food/protein. For someone like you which I would wager is a hardgainer this is extremely difficult to do. It is probably just as hard as making yourself go to the gym or even harder. It is also one of the reasons in all my failed attempts to look like BRAD P I never succeeded. I would maybe hit the gym but I would never eat properly. You CAN'T IMO rely on protein drinks. You must mix in a good diet.

After you hit the gym make sure you get a protein intake within about 30-60 minutes. I come home and have a protein shake and then about 30-60 minutes after that shake I have dinner. I usually have a protein shake about 4 mornings a week. Other than that I eat real food.

Tuna is super cheap and a great source of protein. You will be suprised how good tuna and ramon is. Tuna and crackers is pretty damn good as well.

Peanut butter and bananas tastes like dessert to me and when I am not lazy and have them in the house I eat it for breakfast and snacks.

I wanna say one more thing. I don't believe there is a shortcut to getting your body to the way you want it to look. It takes a crazy insane amount of dedication. Prepare your mind for it. Once you start seeing some gains and results at the gym you will seriously get addicted. I look forward to the gym now and imagine how my body is gonna look down the road. Another thing I have done is keep track of how many workouts I have done. Prodigy thinks I am crazy but it seems to motivate me. I told myself after 150 workouts I would look insane(Brad P fight club). I am certain I will look like that at 150.

I didn't want to make a new thread just for this, so I'll ask this here.

Will it work if I got some free weights (barbells, maybe a dumbell) off of craigslist or a used fitness shop? That way I could work out and just life weights at home, and save the $30 a month on gym fees.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that as long as you stick with it. I had a full setup in my garage and I really didn't lift as much as when I had a gym membership so I went back to the gym. For your goals it's perfect...but you gotsta stick with it.

Yes and no.

Having weights at home offer convenience and you can build muscle, but your exercises may be limited by how much equipment you have. Additionally, as you build muscle and gain strength, you will need to increase resistance (most commonly in the form of weights). One set of dumbells can only offer sonmuch resistance.

Now, it's not absolutely necessary to have weights to build muscle. Many people can build mass by doing body weight exercises (basically p90x). Here's a great website that has all at home workouts. Rosstraining.com.

Not relating to question, but I've noticed that when I had a home bench, I hardly used it, I would just get lazy and not work out. By forcing my ass to the gym, it garuntees that I will work out.

I'm on the road all the time, so a gym membership is out of the question for me. I just got myself a set of gymnastics rings, which I can hook up to a door or throw over a tree or just about anywhere.
