Restaurants for Day Two's

Postby Guest » Mon May 03, 2010 6:50 pm

Since as I do not sarge as often as I use to, I find myself going to dinner quite a bit, and my list of restaurants I’d like to try has dwindled. I hate using the internet because a few of their “top restaurants” were mediocre at best.

What I would like to do is compile a list of restaurants in the DFW metroplex that would be a great place to have dinner with the boys or a take a girl on a day two.

Preferably, places that are unique and fun, something a girl would enjoy (maybe they have amazing margaritas or soemthing). If you don’t know of any “hole-in-the wall” joints, mainstream works too. Either way, I want to know what restaurants you frequent and why.

Rules:

1. I understand that several of you do not take girls to dinner as a day two event. I don’t want this to be a discussion on why one should or should not take a girl to dinner; that’s a different thread.

2. I want first hand experiences; you must have personally been to the restaurant before.

3. Try to follow my format; so we can get a good idea of what the restaurant is like.

I’ll start with my list and this is in no particular order, just comes to me.

Name: Wai Wai Kitchen
Food Type: Asian (mostly Thai)
Cost: $10-15 per person ($12 for entrée, appetizer and a drink for what I get)
Location: Lemmon Ave near uptown (they also have one off Mockingbird near SMU)
Description: Very good, fast and casual. Definitely not a place you would take a girl on a “date” but an awesome place to take a girl to enjoy good food in a low pressure environment. I usually get the Drunken noodles with chicken (spicy level as medium).

Name: Café Express
Food Type: American
Cost: About $15 for entrée, soup and drink
Location: McKinney Ave (they have various locations throughout the metroplex)
Description: Fast, casual and tasty! An added benefit is that it is rather healthy. This would be a great place to take a girl on a lunch date. Sit outside on the patio and enjoy the beautiful weather (like right now. If it’s the summer, maybe not...). I usually get the Spanish Chicken Romesco. Their sweet tea is pretty damn good as well.

Name: Mia’s Mexican Food
Food Type: Tex-Mex
Cost: $10-15 per entrée, not including drinks
Location: Lemmon Ave
Description: Amazing tex-mex food! Prices are fair but not a huge fan of the environment or layout. Soft drinks can be expensive as they sell it by the can and offer no free refills (unless it’s tea). I usually get the carne asda and its really tender and flavorful (except this last time I went).

Name: Thanh Thanh
Food Type: Vietnamese
Cost: About $10 per entree
Location: Arlington (360 and Pioneer I think)
Description: One of the more authentic Vietnamese restaurants I’ve been too. Great food with pretty good sized portions. The inside is beautiful and looks like an upscale restaurant, but is really casual.

Name: Pho Pasteur II
Food Type: Pho (Vietnamese)
Cost: Less than $10 per entree
Location: Carrollton (Josey lane and Belt Line)
Description: One of the better pho restaurants I’ve been to. Cheap and pretty good, especially after a heavy night of drinking.

Name: Village Burger Bar
Food Type: Burgers
Cost: About $15 per meal, per person
Location: West Village in Uptown
Description: Pretty good burgers, but a bit more expensive than I would like to pay. Be a good day two to take a girl here then to the neighboring bars of West Village .

Name: Los Lupe’s
Food Type: Tex-Mex
Cost: $10 per meal, per person
Location: Way south Dallas (they also have one in Addison )
Description: They have amazing charro beans and good food in general; flavorful and relatively cheap.

Name: Riscky’s BBQ
Food Type: BBQ
Cost: $15 per entree
Location: Downtown Ft. Worth
Description: Great BBQ and good BBQ sauce. Really good environment, location and all you can eat BBQ beef ribs. Yum!!

Name: Babe’s Chicken
Food Type: Southern
Cost: $15 per meal, per person
Location: Burleson (several in DFW including Carrollton and Roanoke )
Description: Some of the best fried chicken I’ve ever had and the family style sides are great as well. It has a nice comfortable feel and only 6 items on the menu.

I didn’t go too mainstream because I assume most of us already know what Saltgrass, Bj’s, Cheesecake Factory, Olive Garden, etc. has to offer and taste like.

That’s all I can think of right now, will add more later as I think of them.

Chips - Lovers ln and the Tollway. They used to have the greatest burgers and fries in the world. Very low key joint. I haven't been here in forever so I can't say if they're still great.

Angelo's Italian Grill - Lakewood area. 6341 La Vista Dr Dallas, TX 75214. Delicious Italian food. The best bread and marinara sauce around. Sunday they have brunch with all you can eat buffet ($11.95) and bottomless Mimosas ($5).

El Sabrosa Taqueria - 3426 W Kingsley rd. Garland, TX 75041. This is a tiny little Mexican restaurant located inside of a liquor store but the food here is so good it's unbelievable. This place is for the adventurous.

Tony's Pizza and Pasta - 10233 E. Northwest Hwy., Suit 504. Dallas, TX 75238. This place has the best pizza in all of Dallas. So good it's unbelievable. Everything else looks very tasty too, but I have only had the pizza. Low key but classy joint.

Thai 2 go - This place is only takeout or delivery but it's the best Thai food around. So tasty. Check out thai2goonline.com - The Beef Pad Si Ew is unbeatable.

Cost: Expensive but worth it.
Location: Multiple, but the one on Lemmon in Dallas is my favorite.
Description: Respectable atmosphere, great service, and amazing steak. I am a steak person and this is some of the best steak I've ever had. My family is in the cattle business so I know what good steak is supposed to taste like.

Name: JC's Burgerhouse
Food: Hamburgers
Cost $7
Location: Allen/McKinney maybe more?
Description: The best hamburgers around. That stuff they call a hamburger at Village burger is for you city raised folks. If you want a real hamburger JC's is the place to go.

Name: Morelia Mexican Restaurant
Food: Mexican
Cost: $10
Location: Harry Hines

Cost: $5 to get in, $5 all you can eat buffet.
Location: Plano & Miller Road
Description: This joint has the best strip club lunch buffet in Dallas and I've tried every single one of them. You want to go on Friday afternoon. Thats when they have their Mexican buffet. Oh yeah they got the best cookies in town! :-) I'm talking about the chocalate chip kind! When you walk in request the older short Asian waitress named Kari. And yes I did have a first date here once!

The Men's Club on Northwest Highway has the best Friday afternoon happy hour in Dallas. Show up around 4pm and they have free crawfish, $1.50 beer/wine, $3 wells, free entry. You can sit out on the patio under the trees right next to the pool, listen to live music, and check out hot half naked girls. It doesn't get any better than that. You can even go for a swim if you want! Even if you don't like strippers you really can't beat this deal.

I also give a vote for Angelo's and Babes. I love those places.

Name: Grimaldi's brick oven Pizza
Price: $15-20
Location: multiple. I go to the one at Watters Creek in Allen. If you guys havent been to Watters creek, its a great place to take a girl for an evening. Lots of dining choices, shops, bookstore, nice pond. Sometimes live music in the park area.
Description: great pizza, great salad, nice atmosphere.

Name: Mercy Wine Bar
Price: Can be expensive, but order the wine sampler where you get 3 or 4 small glasses for about $17 or so.
Location: Addison, close to Shercocks.
Description: I only take girls here that I am very certain about and want to impress. Call ahead and reserve the upstairs couch area. Great atmosphere to make a girls panties wet! ;) Good place to talk in a romantic setting.

Name: Cafe San Miguel
Price: $10-15
Location: Henderson right next to Barcadia.
Description: Great mexican food, great selection of tequila's, and excellent location for bouncing to another venue on foot

Name: Twisted Root Burger Co.
Price: $7-10
Location: Deep Ellum, Commerce Street
Description: Some of the best burgers in the city, usually more gourmet burgers, try the sweet potato chips.

Name: Angry Dog
Price: $7-10
Location: Deep Ellum, a block from Twisted Root
Description: Dating back to the late 90s, the Angry Dog has been a perennial favorite for best burgers and bar food in the city. Try the fried jalapeno's on your burger...to die for bro. The burgers are generally simple but they must put crack in the meat because it kicks ass.

Name: Cock and Bull
Price: $7-10
Location: Lakewood off of Gaston near the Abrams intersection
Description: This is a bar, but if you have the munchies, then you'll be pleasantly surprised by the food that they serve there. The bar menu is generally rated as one of the top bar menus in the city.

Name: Scalini's and The Wine Therapist
Price: Sacalini's - $10; The Wine Therapist - $7-10 per glass of wine
Location: Both in Lakewood. Scalini's is at Abrams and Gaston on the north side in the same shopping center as Cantina Laredo. The Wine Therapist is located at Skillman and Gaston.
Description: Grab a pizza at Scalini's and take it with you to The Wine Therapist to enjoy with your favorite glass of wine while lounging on the comfy couches or enjoying the weather on the patio. Once dinner is over, there are at least three bars to bounce to within walking distance: Lakewood Landing, Cosmo's, and The Pour House. I've had this 'date' a lot, so much in fact that the staff at The Wine Therapist knows me and is good about keeping their mouth shut about the other girls. I've never had an instance in which I didn't fuck close after this date...it's my go to date bro.

Name: Hibuscus
Price: $15-20
Location: Henderson across the street from The Porch, Cube Libre, and Fireside Pies.
Description: Reservations required. Very nice restaurant that serves their food in shareable portions. The food is amazing, I recommend the baked macaroni and skate wing. The price is high, but for a special occasion what better place to treat a lady than one of the best restaurants in the city?

Name: The Alligator Cafe
Price: $7-10
Location: Intersection of Carroll Ave and Live Oak Street in East Dallas.
Description: A gem in the heart of the ghetto, this place serves the best canjun and creole food in the city. It's routinely rated in the top 3 of the best canjun and creole joints in the city, year after year. The place is a former Wendy's but once you go inside, order your food, and enjoy the live music that plays there relatively regularly, then you'll forget all about that red headed step child. Great find and if she likes hole-in-the-walls, she'll love this...

Name: Meridian Room
Price: $7-10
Location: Exposition Park, across the street from Fair Park. Yes, it's the ghetto, but there are 5 or 6 bars/clubs in this area clustered together so it's pretty safe.
Description: Typical bar/American food, but very, very well done. If you find yourself here, grab and bite, then bounce over to Amersterdam Pub (around the corner) and grab a drink.

Name: Fuel City
Price: $1-2
Location: Off of Riverfront Road, just north of I30.
Description: Fuel City is a huge gas station that houses a small taco vendor that is hands down the single best taco vendor in the city. All of their meats are shredded: chicken, barbacoa, beef, and pork. Be sure to get onions and cilantro on top and get plenty of their hot sauce. Grab a beer in Fuel City and hit the car and find a quiet place to enjoy your eats.

Name: Campisi's
Price: $10-15
Location: Off of Mockingbird just before Greenville Avenue.
Description: Exactly what you would expect from a restaurant that used to be run by the mob...or so they say. The place is dark, romantic, with just a slight bit of shadiness. I recommend the side salad to start with and then order one of their Egyptian style pizzas. Make sure you go to this location and only this location. The quality control at the other locations leaves something to be desired.
