1. Leave the work shoes at home.
The oxfords are perfect for that meeting with the head of accounting, and have no real place in a club. Your nightlife shoes should be trendy, and a bit flashy. Lately the trend has towards cool ankle boots, and thin square toed shoes. If you're going to wear sneakers, sport an upgraded Steve Madden, or Puma type sneaker. The Nike cross trainers are for the gym. Nightlife is where you can take some chances, and wear things with more flash than in “normal” life. So, if you've got those gold snakeskin boots, this is the place to wear them.

2.Wear great pants.
The khakis, and dress slacks are for the office. Leave them there. Grab a great pair of well fitting jeans, linen pants, or cords. Velvet pants can be used too. Women tend to be very tactile, and having items with a great texture can help to cross the touch barrier. There are many worse things than a woman telling you how awesome your pants feel.

3. Rock a trendy or very well cut shirt.
This is your chance to wear shirts with crazy designs, or tight fitting shirts. Be a rockstar! Wear some colors too. All black is for the goth or emo kids. Unless your a artist who revels in the pain, this is your time to shine. Pick a shirt that invites a conversation, and lets your inner Mick Jagger, David Bowie, or Steven Tyler loose.

4. Accessories.
Don't be afraid to own a couple of rings, a necklace, cool glasses, and chain wallet, or leather wristbands that are exclusively for going out. Own at least one accessory that invites a question, and is a great way for a woman to strike up a conversation if you've caught her eye. Picking up item on trips is a great way to do this, because it has a great story attached to it. “I got this necklace from a bazaar in Turkey, when I was.....” is a great lead in and communicates the right things about you.

5. Enlist a fashionable woman's help.
Most women have an innate ability for fashion, and will be a big help in picking out great items for you. Just like you can remember batting averages, and who won the 1985 Super Bowl, women have a gene for this. A girlfriend, female friend, or impartial walker-by can help out a ton. Don't trust the sales girls. They magically think everything looks great on you. The only great thing will be their comission for snookering you. Grab a woman who can help, because when you go out, you know who your dressing for, and it's not the guys in your entourage.

Don't:
1. Wear ANYTHING Ed Hardy or Affliction unless your a Jersey shore cast member.
These had a run a while back, and are fading fast at the time of writing. Most of the guys who wear these have a certain type of attitude. Don't be lumped in with those yahoos. Besides, if everyone is wearing them, it doesn't really make you stand out. Do you really want to be thought of as Affliction shirt guy #27? Didn't think so.

2. Wear 597 gold chains unless your Mr. T.
I pity the fool who breaks this rule! A few accessories are good. A lot isin't. Keep it to a few well picked tasteful items. Leave the excessive necklaces, rings, and bracelets to rap videos. Also, the gold chain and chest hair thing went out in the disco era. It's dead. Leave it buried.

7. Sport the “Blow out” spiked hairdo.
A little hair gel, or styling product is good. If someone can impale themselves on your hair, it's too much. Easy does it.
