Got something to say?

Whatever you want you can have, total it up and put it on my tab.

I like the idea Smirks proposed. Some sort of expiration date on the lounge. More work for Vector but a good idea.

I'm trying to look back on when I first joined. I think it took me around 45 days before I came out to the meeting. I'm wondering if having all these restrictions in place if I would have ever made it out. I have a feeling I would have since I was super hungry. I know as shy as I am it took a lot for me to even come out to the meeting. I just hope we aren't putting more roadblocks up. But I guess when it really comes down to it you are going to make it if you are hungry enough. So it probably weeds some more out who are going to come once and never again.

When I first stumbled across this forum what got my attention was all of the info that was posted in the general access areas. Had this info been locked away behind a special access lounge area, most likely my curiousity would not have been piqued! I would have said "oh ok, this forum really doesn't have a lot to offer and found another one.

I understand the importance of a close knit group, but I also think its important to dangle enough carrots out there to get the new guy excited when he first stumbles across this forum.

If you lock away all the good stuff, what is there to sell the new guy on why he should become involved with this forum?

There just needs to be enough interesting material in the general public areas to convince a new person this forum is worth his time.

There will be a FAQ and Newbie Manual available ther, along with lots of 'this and more are covered in threads in the member lounge....come to a meeting and gain access to all the greatness of Dallas Lair!

Big enough carrot, I think. If not...go to mASF or attractionforums if that's not good enough. Right now there is zero incentive to being a face member of the lair. Here is a good way to give just that. Unless you wanna host face member hotdog cookout day or have a better suggestion, I think the lair is going to demand users be a lot more personable...and rightly so.

I think this is why it's crucial we have a manual of frequently discussed topics available to everyone. The idea is that you put the conversations up that we've had, instead of making available (right away) what we're discussing now.

Maybe that's how we market it...here's what we've covered, now if you want to know what's on our minds NOW, guess what? We have to meet you.

There's still 'free' content, it's just filtered and time delayed.

lol. i'll tow it out to the next meetup...

i think it would be worth to put a short paragraph in the 'read this first' that wraps up all this sentiment cohesively so that people do realize it's active and open to new people, just that it's an attempt to encourage people to get out.

BTW Howie. I met you at that meetup actually. I'm guilty of not making it out all the time either, but it makes it all the more interesting/relevant to read your posts having had met you at some point (hopefully vice versa :) ) but I think that is part of the point of all this...

Id like to go as far as putting expiration on lounge membership. showing your face every few months won't kill you. if you can't see us face to face ever so often, then why should I even acknowledge your opinion on matters?
[/quote1236717473]

Not a bad idea..
But by 'get out' do you guys mean the official Friday meets or can it be just a bunch of lair guys meeting up on any given day...just curious

Since I joined in December last year I've met the bigguns of the community just 3rice...but I meetup with the other newer guys like every Saturday...

It would have to be one of the events where Vector takes attendance... i.e the Friday Meet Ups. Perhaps something could be arranged for those day game events @ North Park (I'm assuming that's what you're referring to.)

There are numerous national boards. fastseduction, theattractionforums, etc, that people can lurk anonymously all they want. fastseduction has 10+ years of archives back to the very beginning of the overall community. You can read and lurk all you want and there is much more traffic and discussion on these sites.

If someone has found/discovered the local lair, well...it's for local members to discuss topics with each other, and those that they have met IRL. Hence the whole point of local lairs. If you want to have anonymous discussions with people you haven't met, post away on the national boards, and talk with people you've never have or will meet.

I like the context of knowing the person behind the post. It also helps you gauge level of KJing and keep things in perspective knowing who the post is coming from as well. Let's face it, it's not asking much to show up at a single event..
[/quote1236719269]

Exactly!

The way I see it, the key feature, and the primary value of a local group like this is actually meeting people IRL. If you never come out to meet someone in person, then you are just some dude off the internet, and there are already plenty of those elsewhere, thank you.

The idea of expiring people who have not shown up or not posted for a while seems to be popular, but I am leaning against it, and the reason is that there are some people I can think of specifically who I think should remain members, but they are simply not big on posting, or they're doing their own thing. Keeping people who have been AWOL doesn't directly hurt anything. But at the same time I don't want to have a huge long list of people who came out one time and whom nobody knows. So I would support some way of getting rid of those, but it shouldn't be an automatic expiration based on time. More like an expiration based on, "hey, does anyone actually know this guy?"
