"Alphaness", I think, can be conveyed through a forum, or text.
"Alpha" is a habit. "Alpha" has qualities and traits that a person can readily identify. BR does this all the time, but when you pick out one thing out of what a person posts and leave out the rest, that's being alpha via text because you are controlling the conversation.
Questions are great at conveying "alphaness" via text, in your previous question TD, you asked someone to blatantly qualify. This is me being "beta", by answering or taking the "justifying" position in a frame.
but here's the real question, does me being right about this make me alpha over you now, even though I just "beta'd" myself and answered your question? Is one of us more "beta" surely because you're hung like a horse and I, like a mouse, that makes you more alpha.
So as it stands, absurdifying the situation turns out to be a tactic as well.
"Alpha" is a state of mind, it can be defined by a behavior, or emotion but essentially it comes from being selfish and right.
BR and I have had tiffs but we also kiss and make up. There have been things, I'm sure, I have posted that BR has read and thought "That fucker's challenging me." In regards to me, posting against what he says. Just like there's been times where he's posted something and I've been like, "That fucker's challenging me."
BR is an alpha guy, alpha qualities exude competition, the desire to take. Alpha can be translated via text through competition.
All this aside though, blatantly challenging someone or "starting a fight" can be an issue. IF the other person answers the challenge, they have just lowered themselves to that persons level and they are fighting for level 3 of the social ladder.
My take on this is as follows:
There are different tiers to social hierarchies. These tiers involve certain aspects but lets start off on tier 1, that's high school per se. Where you just get out of school and you are what your social status was there, but in the real world. Whether it's the computer geek, jock, beauty queen, etc.. You get out, and realize that you aren't shit in the grand scheme of things. SO you either assert yourself or become complacent. Lets skip ahead to Level 5. You have mid level management, you either become complacent or trudge on, this is where you find the people that like to control their little aspect of their little world and poke and point at their little minions. Tell people what to do because they can and it makes them feel "alpha". They finally have something they can control since getting out of high school. Level 7 Upper management, Ceo's they realize the power at their finger tips. They realize their minions are their bitches, if they should want it that way, but they realize that people work better when they feel they are in control of themselves and their environment. So they do a little jig and play on that power and let people think they are in control. "Alpha" in their own right. (missing levels, etc, but you get the point, and these arent exact levels just here to illustrate)
My definition of alpha is. Being in control of ones actions while taking in information and then acting according to your own goals.
Now depending on where you are on this little social hierarchy ladder, is going to determine a certain level of "alphaness" expected. Do people argue with you? Do they bend to your will? All questions that can be answered via text in how people reply to you. It certainly may be hard to convey "alphaness" via text but not impossible.
