This is great. I was in a bar a few weeks ago with poor ventilation and low ceilings for about 2.5 hours. The next morning I had smoker's cough, my eyes were red, my voice was fucked up and my clothes smelled like ass. It's fuckin' nasty.

Smokers shouldn't have the right to do this to other people. Take your nasty shittin' habits outside!

I am trying to get the city council of Lewisville to pass a similar ban. Flower Mound just passed it, Frisco and Plano have been that way for a long time. The entire state of California, Oregon, Florida and Arizona are this way. You Dallas guys are lucky. I only wish they'd do this in Lewisville.

Now that Dallas joins San Antonio & Houston as cities with smoking bans, hopefully the state legislature will pass a state wide ban.

Alphagame, no smokers forced that on you. You made a choice to go to that bar and you made a choice to stay there. There are other venues you could have gone to that are smoke free if it is that important to you. What gives you the right to says smokers should have no public place they can congregate like that? Why shouldn't some bars be allowed to be smoking and you just not go there if you don't like it? The nonsmokers are the one who are abusing peoples' rights, not the other way around. PS - I'm a nonsmoker. If a place is that nasty and offputting, I just choose not to go there again -- me pretending that someone forced me to go there and inhale smoke against my will is just silly.

The way I see it, this is something the free market is best equiped to deal with.

If smoking in a bar truly is that big of a deal, non-smoking bars would have popped up left and right. That's how the free market works. The reason that these types of bars didn't pop up is because the market doesn't really want that.

While, I don't think there's any right to be able to spark up around others and subject them to second hand smoke. I also don't think anyone has any right to not allow someone to smoke, especially on PRIVATE PROPERTY.

I think it's funny how people tend to think that the government knows best. It doesn't. Government isn't the solution, government is the problem. Individuals pursuing their own interest will also make better decisions collectively than the smartest bureaucrat. Always.
