I need a reliable car for my job. I have to drive all over the metroplex and don't want to put like 30k miles a yr on my s2000. Right now I am using my parents 89 ford festiva, but I hope on moving out soon. My parents are bible thumpers that want to give me a curfew, don't want me drinking, and freaked out when they found a condom in my pants....at the age of 21.
So...anyone looking to sell a vehicle? It helps if it runs....

I am going to give you some advice.
When I was your age I had a few sports cars. I used to care so much about putting milage on them. So much that I would even argue with my GF about who's car we would take on trips and stuff(Gay).
Looking back this was so worthless. Someday you are going to sell your car. I know it means a ton to you right now. I used to baby my cars, they would never see dirt, etc.
You start to realize what is important and what isn't. I like nice cars and always will but I realize they are just objects. I too put a shit load of miles on my car each year. My car isn't worth as much as a low milage vehicle. But if I had a daily driver instead it would cost xx amount of dollars per month to insure, upkeep, etc. So instead of buying another car and having double insurance, etc just realize that someday you will sell your car and it will be worth a little less because of the high mileage. But in the mean time your monthly expenditure is less.
Also this way you are sporting a nice car everywhere you go not some junker.
If you really want another car though I would recommend ebay and craigslist.

I'm not a car guy so i can't quite relate, but they are just objects. If having a nice car is a big deal and you value it that much, and you drive all over town all day, wouldn't you WANT to be driving the nice car all the more??
but regardless, PC's financial advice makes a ton of sense.
and just the actual cost of a RELIABLE 2nd car that is not going to be a financial money pit in repair costs will no way be more than the added depreciation from the extra miles.

I have to agree with PC and TD.
There are costs of owning: insurance, registration, car payment (or opportunity cost of equivalent $), and the fact that cars depreciate just by being older.
And there are costs to driving: gas, and depreciation due to mileage and normal wear & tear.
I haven't done the math, but I think PC and TD are right: you're not really saving by getting a second car. You should be able to work the numbers yourself and see how the costs work out.

My options are to either get a different job or to keep this one and use my car. It is hard to find a job at my age that pays $12 an hour. I was actually curious about this and if we were just blowin smoke or not so i took a minute at kelly BB to check this out...
A hypothetical 5 year old s2000, one w/ the 30k yr miles vs a 12k year mileage after 5 years, there is a $4100 kelly BB value difference, all other things equal. you won't get a car for that amount thats worth giving it another thought.

And for what it's worth i put 25K miles on my car a year due to a long ass commute when i actually go into office(100 miles/day), so i can sympathize w/ the concern!

You guys are posers. My game got even better when I started daily driver my shitter miata. I only drive the nice, turbo miata when its nice out or going to the track...I never park it in public at night. I also have a 2000 outback wagon which is a total mom ride. You should probably move out. If you have to get away from car payments, let me know and I'll find a turbo miata for less than $8k that will be faster and just as reliable as that s2k.
