A neg by its nature is meant to re-frame a girl who is[i] [b]not[/b] exhibiting a favorable response when you open the set or when she is not buying into your frames[/i], not when she does something favorable or good, i.e. opening you. The Encyclopedia de PUA states in articles 16 an 17 that when a girl does something desirable the PUA should reward such good behavior and a neg is for bad behavior.
I would probably say something like, "Thanks, and you are? (blah bkah), and what makes you special?" ....And youre off to qualification/comfort...

why are you going to neg somebody who is ATTRACTED to you? To use a crude metaphor, that would be like telling a dog to sit, the dog sits, and you slap the dog.
if she comes up to you and is already in to you and complimenting you, accept the compliment, and then racket it up a notch by asking for a bit more compliance because odds are you will get it.

Agreed. The key in this situation is to have a funny comment about the hair itself without explaining it. A funny one-liner would be sufficient. Negs should really only be to punish bad behavior, not good behavior.
