ok, so I need a nickname...

Postby Muk » Sat Apr 19, 2008 4:37 pm

so last night, I had a problem with my name (as I do pretty much everywhere else) someone would ask "hey, what's your name?" and I'd be like "I'm Idris"
them: Adrius?
me: no, Idris
them: Adrian?
me: no...sigh...yeah...Adrian

I like my name, but I spend way too much time having to correct the mis-pronunciation.

so anyone want to help me come up with a nickname? (preferably someone who's met me) It should be something that matches who I am and what I look like and...well...I have no real idea what I look like to other people. would a name that sounds similar to what my real name be a good idea?

like: Adrian, Adrius, Allen Maurice...
or something completely different? (please no "Gary" I get enough "You look like a taller Gary Coleman" as it is)

I'm actually using Gary Coleman in an opener:

"Hey, do you think I look like Gary Coleman?" and then a dhv about how my hair used to be in a 'fro and when I cut it my friends laughed and said I look like that guy from Different Strokes...

what about id?

–noun Psychoanalysis. the part of the psyche, residing in the unconscious, that is the source of instinctive impulses that seek satisfaction in accordance with the pleasure principle and are modified by the ego and the superego before they are given overt expression.

It was nice meeting you. I think the only advice I could give you based on the short time I spent with you is to bad boy it up a little. I'm sure you're a great guy and you look nice and approachable. I don't know, maybe that will work for you.

I'd drop any jokes about Gary Coleman. It might get a laugh or conversation, but you're not the joke. You're the prize man. If they say you look like Gary Coleman tell him that you think they mean Gary Busey. Hell say anything to confuse them.

Just some thoughts. Take it or leave it. I'm new to this community but I can still offer you another perspective.
No, No, that's the left. We want the good one.

Bebop.

It's a form of jazz characterized by fast tempos and improvisation.

I am in a similar boat. I tell my name. They may or may not get it. When they do, they do not believe it is my real name. They want to see my ID and if i show it they still do not believe it. I usually through in loops for them to jump through or bt spikes in the whole interaction about my name.. I should think really think of a solid routine for my name.

But back to your question:

I would tell them your name and then follow with.. My friends call me XYZ.. This may make it seem more personal.

I have the same problem with my name. I think it is one of the main reasons that I have approach anxiety. The fact that at some point i will have to tell them my name sometimes gives me an excuse not to open. I don't want to go through the explanation of how to say/spell my name. I wish I had a name I could say once and they would remember.

But a name can't really be that important. I have built a pretty good relationship (not just sexual) with someone who i believe doesn't even know how to say my name. They come up with something to call you.

So I guess if your game is strong it doesn't matter what your name is. As long as you say it with confidence, it doesn't matter. But i do agree, a nickname would make it so much simpler, honestly.
