delivering a story

so I went sarging last night and did horrible...I'd try to tell a story and fail at it completely. It's like I'd start the story, but then forget a part and have to go back to fix it and in the end the story has been mangled is no longer coherent. like I'd tell a story about how I got lost on the way back from somewhere:

"Yeah, I was in Mexico on Mexico hwy and got lost when Jose was giving directions to Pueblo street...oh, right, no hold on, we picked up Jose while we were at a taco stand in san antonio, he was so cool and he happened to be going to the same place, no, wait, we were originally intending on stopping in Houston..."

That's an exaggerated example, but it's like that...when I think the story up in my mind, it's fine, but when I go to say it, it comes out in a mess...

Maybe it's my attempt at keeping balance between making a story from being too long and boring, but keeping the details that makes the story interesting in the first place...

by the way, I think I screwed up on one of those toll booths. I'm from Ft Worth, so I rarely see Toll Booths (I've seen one on the way to DFW, but that's it) this toll booth was off of the freeway and there was no one there. There were two sides one with a toll tag sign and the other saying exact change (but they were both up and you couldn't see them until you get there, anyway, I pulled up to the one for toll tag didn't see the sign, so I go into reverse and try to go to the other side to drop in some change, but before I get to go to the other lane, there's another car that just zooms right on through, so I'm thinking "ok, maybe the toll is free since it's late and maybe you only have to pay it during the day" all of the lights were off, the signs were up, so I went on through thinking that it was free. and the bell goes off...

So...am I going to get a ticket in the mail or something?

Are the stories you are trying to tell true or are you making them up? If you're making them up, then don't correct them. I have discovered I love making stories up because I make them so unbelievable and tell them with a totally straight face that they don't what to think and it gets kind of funny.
No, No, that's the left. We want the good one.

I would keep the stories short until you are in comfort with your target or you REALLY have the set hooked. Paying attention to a long story in a loud venue is hard to do and usually takes more effort then what it is worth.

very short stories with spikes of excitement/drama is my preferred way.

I told some chicks the rock/paper/scissor story today and they realized that I was actually a serial killer tracking my next victim.
