How to DHV when asked about your career...

Postby EL CHUPACABRA » Wed Feb 06, 2008 12:50 pm

I have heard many men lie about their careers when asked by females.

So my question is; what if you have a boring job?
A. Do you lie?
B. Do you make it sound interesting by stretching the truth?
C. Avoid the subject all together?
D. Simply just tell the truth outright!

What is an interesting job to a woman?

What each of us do for ends every single day of our lives may seem boring to us may be gold to the ladies. Talking about are dreams is not enough here cause after all they are just dreams....I want to be a spelunker but that just isn't gonna happen!

If any of the ladies out there in the community would like to put there two sense in to these questions I would be grateful...I know that you are out there.

I am a delivery specialist and love my career, it's what I always wanted and the money is awesome! It's great to me however, is it something that a HB may want to here about?

I think you answered your own question. As long as you show passion for what you do, your actual job does not matter.

I actually try to downplay my job or avoid the subject altogether until I get to know them better because I like to screen out gold diggers.

Something that Asian Playboy came up with a while back that I love is this "I believe you actually meant to ask me what I LIKE to do. I love to snow ski and ....."

No need to lie. Use it as an opportunity to convey something deeper about yourself. Tell her first what your job means to you and what aspects of your character influence your current job and your future plans, then tell her your actual job. Sometimes if you tell her your actual job first, her mind will shut off and it will distort what you say afterward.

I find that most of the time when they ask, it's not because they actually care that much about what you do. They want to know about you and they don't know how else to ask. By taking the roundabout path of telling her about yourself and what led you to the career you're in, you are not dodging the question. You are answering the question she meant to ask but didn't know how.

A. Do you lie?
NO!
Joke yes but once maybe twice.
Then roll into the truth

B. Do you make it sound interesting by stretching the truth?
Isnt stretching the truth same as a lie.
Yes make in sound interesting think tonality.

C. Avoid the subject all together?
Example: Her: So where where do you work?
You: Man them darn seahawks sure sucked this year.

aside from her controlling the frame and you just being a turd just make in sound interesting.

D. Simply just tell the truth outright!
Absolutely! even if you are sperating nuts and bolts from wing nuts and it just a job till you get through college or just to get you on your feet. Explain your situation and convey you have goals and you dont plan on working with Lavern and Shirley all your life. Its all good.

Women love men with goals.

I use the DeAngelo method here when I'm asked about what I do. Its a great chance to show your playful side and try to build up some kino. I as well love my job so I'm not ashamed at all to let them know what I do. I usually get off the subject though because I try not to reveal to much. Keep them guessing Try This:

HB: So what do you do??

Me: I'm a screw threader. (I usually smile and let them know I'm playing. It reels them in.) If they dont get it sometime you might have to add "you know the threads that are on all screws?? I put em in there. Geez get with it."

HB: No you dont what do you really do??

Me: Ok, Ok you got me I'm really a professional hop scotch player. (or tick tack toe, hand ball, or any other fun childhood game you can think of.) I have found that if I turn my back to target here and look around I usually get a push or they posture up.

HB: No you dont!! (Usually I get a IOI or slap here if there fun. If nothing and they start to think I'm lying to them I just tell them what I really do.)

Me: If I do get a hit on the arm I will reply "O my god, hands of the threads!! Geez, is she always like this where's her off button?""

HB: O my gosh you are sooo rude!!

Me: You know its funny your nose wiggles when you talk, say something else quick??

HB: Usually a blush or another IOI or touch or the shit test begins.

From here quickly stack before the akward silence begins or she says something. If she is with a friend ask her friend the next question and ignore the target for a moment.

I usually make something ridiculous up like the above mention but when asked again I will say what I do. Dodging the question and replying with something retarded several times just seems like you are trying to hide something and/or you are not confident with the truth. (This is with anything question being asked, not just a reply about your job)

I always pull the same DeAngelo remarks, but then I'll own up to the truth if she is persistent. I have a pretty cool job, so I don't mind sharing. Generally I don't ask back, because I'm not out sarging to talk about work. Sometimes I'll let silence hang for a minute to see if she offers. If not, new subject, or I launch into the tail end of what I used to do with my old job.

I used to have a really boring job shortly after college that I didn't like to talk about. So, I never brought it up, and if it was brought up, (after the DeAngelo bit) I mentioned the industry and then reasonably politely stated I wasn't out to talk about work, and I'm not just about my job. There's a lot more interesting things about me I'd rather share. Which usually prompts them to ask. After sharing, I then pull the 3 question routine if I haven't already.

I've found that women, especially younger women, who have crappy jobs, generally when asked immediately launch into "I'm not here to talk about work" in a very standoffish way. Not that I really ask anymore, but in my more AFC days, I did. (Now I only bring it up if it's a natural course in conversation during rapport.) I figured out it was their way of trying to avoid DLV'ing themselves with their low status job.

I never ask what a girl does for a ton of reasons (I don't want her to DHV me, to DLV herself, to get in the mental frame of work, to talk about the same shit everyone else does, etc, etc) and when asked I always respond with something ridiculous like:

I steal hubcabs from cars.
I'm a professional mud wrestler.
I club baby seals.
I'm a serial killer...I kill time at the office over and over again.
I'm in the white slave trade...IBM is our biggest customer.

I only use TWO jokes. Then I tell her the truth and reframe by saying that I enjoy my job, I don't plan on doing it forever, and it doesn't define who I am as person so let's talk about something cool. Then I challenge her to tell me a funny story or I tell her one.

Truth be told, I don't think your job is much of a DHV unless you're doing something really, really exceptional. And, it's not a status symbol. If you're successful she should be able to tell by the way you dress.
The difference is indifference.

I love this line. Girls love it to and always play into it.

WF: I club baby seals
HB: I would take them clubbing! (she does a little nightclub like dance)
WF: What makes you think the seals would want to go out with you...they're pretty picky ya know.

HAHAHA Some great jobs replys in here!!

This is one of the easiest questions I feel I can get from a woman. It leaves the door wide open and with ammo like this in your belt why wouldn't it be easy.
