Having been out a time or two, I noticed a trend in the places I pulled girls from or almost pulled from.

Before everyone jumps on me for being an excuser, consider that I am not talking about opening or putting forth your best effort. I am talking about setting yourself up to win.

Being a Scarce Resouce is good instead of being just another guy in a bar full of guys.

The following is a quick list of observations to use when you go into a bar/club:
- Personal SpaceAre there "too many" people? You should be able to put both your arms out and extend them like a condor and not hit the person next to you.

Personal space also depends on where you live and your own comfort levels. If you're getting hit in the back, its very very hard to talk to girls.

Also, moving girls and isolating them to a place to sit is not a requirement but it does make the pickup run smoother.(Movement by her is a commitment).
Another factor is the heat (and sometimes smell) generated by all those people.

- Too many peopleI have witnessed that people will begin to walk in a circle around the bar. When you see people - both girls and guys going round and round, its a bad sign. Girls usually stay in one spot and don't move. If you see lots of girls moving, its not a great sign. They are focussed on dancing or competing with eachother.

- Empty tablesI like to sit down with girls when I get them into rapport/comfort. If there is no place to sit down when you come in, its a bad sign.

- Tall tables. If the tables/couches are at standing level, then the place is more social since guys don't have to crouch to talk to women.Tall tables are good.

-Eye Contact. If I walk into a bar and I get eye contact right away, I know its a good place or a good night. A quick test is to walk around the bar and check to see how many girls give you eye contact. At least half should return eye contact.If not, time to leave perhaps.

- Girl : Guy Ratio. The infamous girl: guy ratio.This is useful in larger, more crowded environments where competiton is likely to occur as the ratio goes down.In quiteter environments, the more imortant factor is the actual number of cute girls.

- Demographics. The age and make up of the bar can also change the dynamics. If the people are older, you will be more of a hot commodity if you're younger. This is because of the economics of the situation. If you are younger or even slightly better looking (or different), you will get more attention.

- Behavior of girls. If you see guys approaching girls and getting blown off, its a bad sign. This is the behavior of girls in crowds.

- The Behavior of guys. If guys start acting weird or violent, then it ruins the bar for pickup.

If you see a fight or can even feel a fight is about to happen, leave the bar. Any violence makes pickup extremely hard. Girls don't want to hang around where there are fights.

- Night of the week. Go back to the places where you've had success. Remember what night you had success and how the venue felt.

- Quiet vs. Loud. Loud music and live bands attract crowds. Crowds bring hot women. They're just a percentage of the population of people going out and more people = more chance of hot girls.Its numbers, not the fact that its the loud music.

Quiet, more laid back places offer less volume of hot girls and more girls who are ready and willing. This is what we want in order to get laid.Girls that are already relaxed. They will give you eye contact and will talk to you. Then its your job to do your part as a man.

- The bar itself. The layout is a certain way where it is easy to isolate and talk. The places I have pulled from or almost pulled from had these characteristics:

- High F:M ratio- Low volume, less people
- Low music or quiet places
- Demographics: older, a place where you stand out
- Music more hypnotic/relaxing
- Something special, like kareoke certain nights.
- "Off" nights or Happy hours
- Almost a feeling of "this place is a little quiet" if it weren't for this cute girl I'm talking to.
- No wings or just one other person
- Interesting atomosphere/ cool place.
- Eye contact from the beginning
- Lots of room
- Relaxed

Excellent. This should be moved to "best of" section.

For those of us who work, go to school, and have lives or hobbies outside of pickup, it is important to make the best of our free time. And as the DFW metro sprawls out and cannibalizes surrounding areas with city culture on an ongoing basis, the choices available become infinite. You could literally hit a different spot every weekend during the course of the year and not go to the same place twice.

It's important to be able to size up a bar to make the most of the time and to adjust the approach if necessary.

And those places where people go round and round brushing up against each other are challenging,as you say. In a place like that, you may be able to go across the room and start grinding with a hot 18 year old blonde without saying hello, and she will let you, but that doesn't mean you'll be taking her home. Each place has its own culture, but you can find similarities in various places which is usually a result of the demographic of the people it attracts.
