The SEO discussion forum

Postby Guest » Mon Apr 28, 2008 7:58 pm

Hey guys, I just created this forum, and added people who have either volunteered, or who I think might have some input for how to get solid google ranking, etc. I know a little bit about SEO but I am far from an expert..

So far this is PicturePerfect, Smirks, quipster, playercool, and Neuromancer (and myself).

This comes from my brother. I talked to him on the phone while a the meeting but didn't touch on it since you guys had moved to another topic.

1. A link from some random site helps a little.
2. A link from some site that is of the same content helps much more.
3. A link from a site that is of the same content that you don't link back to helps a shit load. It is the most any link will help.
4. You should break up every single post(Topic) into it's own page. This will help pretty much more than anything. Your site will have 1,000 or 2,000 or however many pages. Google will eventually index all of these pages.
5. By putting google adwords on your site you will get indexed way quicker. He said it usually takes about 1 week if you have google adwords. Once you are indexed you can take adwords off.

That's about it. If you know other methods awesome but this is what he does. All of our sites were always ranked on the first page of google and almost always in #1,2,3 position for the relevant keywords.

If you have any specific questions I can relay them to him as I actually don't know much about this stuff. I will keep an eye on this forum though.

the first two things on the list are:

http://www.thirtydaychallenge.com/ everyone interested in starting a web biz should become a member.
http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/gtrends/ this is the single most useful off the shelf SEO tool. Gtrends is cool, free, HIGHLY useful. It was set up buy the thirty day challenge guys

those 2 sites will will take you further than any other 10 resources.
Now comes the how to use it part. first, we should all set up a blog that references this site. We should post on it regularly. It doesn't have to be much. Talk about a thread you like and why you like it then link to the thread.
When writing a post here use gtrends to find a good search term to use. Say for instance, you want to talk about approach anxiety, go to gtrends and type in approach anxiety.

http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/gtrends/?seed=approach+anxiety&adult_filter=remove_offensive&suggest=Hit+Me

if you look at the graphs for the options, the term sucks.... bad. You can try misspellings but I doubt they would do any better. I eventually settled on cheesy pick up lines when I was working on pluging my site.

http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/gtrends/index.html?seed=cheesy+pick+up+lines&adult_filter=remove_offensive

there is also cheesy pickup lines

http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/gtrends/index.html?seed=cheesy+pickup+lines&adult_filter=remove_offensive&suggest=Hit+Me

In any event, write your post on the forums SEO optimized. Use a title like "Do I have to resort to Cheesy pickup lines?" then in your post use the term as well: "Ok I have approach anxiety, do I need to resort to cheesy pickup lines?" Then go about your post. The topic should search well in google and and be on the front page pretty quickly for that term.

Now comes social media and blogging. Set up a blogspot account or some other blogging site account. Make it a public and searchable blog and whenever you see a post you like on the forums here write an article about it and link to it. This works better if we all use different blogging sites. If we all use a different blogging site it will look better to google. Use the same search terms that we use in the forum post.

We should all keep track of each others sites for the third part. social bookmarking. Whenever one of us posts a blog post about this forum we should all Digg and Stumble it. We should in fact use as many social bookmarking sites as we can.

This all gives the forum rank. Rank is what we need to own top search terms.

I have set up a thread that we can test with.

http://www.dallaslair.org/p/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?17076.last

When you check google for it, use quotes ie. "cheesy pickup lines"

The cheesy pickup lines thread has some good content but it still isn't indexing. Neither is WWW.dallaslair.org, dallaslair.org, and dallas lair searches dallaspua as number one. Dallaslair.org search results with the PDF on thr frond page only. This probably means there is code on the site that tells google to not index. Someone needs to check the robots.txt.

This is the current contents of robots.txt:
User-agent: *
Disallow: /admin/
Disallow: /handlers/
Disallow: /files/cache/
Disallow: /files/public/avatars/
It blocks google from certain areas for security but not anything that they should be able to see.

well this is the google search for the site specifically in quotes.
http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=R5i&q=%22dallaslair.org%22&btnG=Search
Only the PDF showing up means that the site has been indexed by google and it decided the only relevant content is the PDF about the scism. That means that it either doesn't like the code the site uses or the site is telling google not to index. I don't know why it is doing this or how to fix it.

New Dallas Lair
There is yet another split in the Dallas PUA community. There are now 3 community boards.....however, the latest is the definitely the most active. If you are from Dallas and are unaware of it, check out the latest PUA board at www.dallaslair.org.

a few quick thoughts
we all know the default things to do.
Get links and have contect.
links coming in should have keywords in them
keywords in bold
use htaccess on the forum so you can get the page name as the title of the subject
Everyone that has a blog should be linking back to here.
have static pages dedicated to all the big PUA gurus.. example: mystery, style, sinn, bradp, juggler.
use h1,h2.h3 tags on static pages for PUA's
Get pictures and video to all the gurus and have them hosted on your site. all file names should be relative to the keyboards/name
online email services are looking at emails too. example. gmail, when you send to gmail, yahoo, hotmail use links.
all java code should be separated from the html. this will make the content more dense.

also if your host lets you .. make it so domain.com goes to www domain.com .. that way all your page rankings will be the same and not shared between the two. you can do this with htaccess as well.
