Guys, Am I the only one who has noticed that the webserver hosting this site appears to be unreachable in the mornings? I've seen this several times over the past few weeks and thought I would mention it.

I haven't noticed it. What time are you checking? Next time it happens to you, use this site.

LOL, thats a funny site! If it were down for just me that would mean I had lost DNS for the site, I had lost network connectivity, or it was being blocked by some sort of security agent. Since I have a Juniper SSG-5 Firewall in place, and am using google global DNS servers, I think that it is likely the host. I'll put a nagios monitoring point on the sites IP and see what happens. LOL

It is down in the early morning hours, like 2-5 a lot of the time.

I don't have access to the host, otherwise I'd see if it comes down for SQL backup (no idea why they'd do that...) or something else.\

Still don't know what time frame you're referring to.

You're technical enough...do what you'd do for any site down...gimme a trace route. : P

The site was down again this morning.

The problem was that for a short time, there was no name resolution for the domain name. I was able to confirm this between two computers on two seperate networks using two completely different sets of DNS. Here is a tracert of both dallaslair.com and google.com run back to back.

C:\Users\steve>tracert www.dallaslair.com
Unable to resolve target system name www.dallaslair.com.

C:\Users\steve>tracert www.google.com

Tracing route to www.l.google.com [74.125.227.17]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
