Got something to say?

frat chapters

i was wondering since a lot of my guys are on your board and we know a lot of your guys. Is there anyway we can link the two boards to create a larger community. Kinda like how a frat has chapters. List the chapters somewhere on the site. Just an idea?

I was pushing this way back at the old board. I still think it's a good idea to combine local organizations. We could bring in the Austin Society too.

I want a leather vest that says Pickup Artists Brotherhood, Dallas Original. Or PABDO. Maybe I have been watching too much Suns of Anarchy

That would be awesome. Definitely a good idea. I get down to Austin regularly and would like to get to know those guys better as well for when I'm there since all my friends from austin are typical married types.

I wish we had some kind of relationship with the vegas lair... I found their site today and apparently they don't even allow out of towners to read or post in their forums because so many people want to go to vegas and do pick up when they go visit. Lame.

Carmel, before I address your question specifically I want to go into some of my philosophy on lairs in general.

First, there are a million places online for people to discuss pickup related stuff. There are a lot of book-smart KJ's who can answer questions and maybe some experienced guys who offer good insight too. But it's fundamentally impersonal. The key value in a lair is that people know each other. The conversation can take a different (better) tone since the people are a lot more likely to care about each other and less about sounding cool. It doesn't have to be geographically based, but it almost always is, because geographically dispersed people are less likely to see each other frequently enough to get to know each other.

Another advantage over the big internet forums is the volume on some of the bigger forums is so huge, it's hard to keep up to date, and really there's no point in keeping up to date since I don't know or care about any of the people who are posting. I was following the Austin lair for a while, since I know some of those guys, but eventually I got tired of staying up to date, and nowadays I rarely go on there.

So if we ignore all the technical issues for a moment, trying to "merge" or somehow "link" the Dallas lair with the Austin lair would mean the percentage of users that people know personally will drop by about half. For a lot of the Dallas users, the Austin guys are not much different from random guys on the internet whom they don't know and are unlikely to meet. And vice versa. I believe that in the minds of the users, the personal relevance of the people is what gives relevance to the discussion. One random guy talking to another random guy will have low relevance and dilute interest. This reduced relevance would coincide with increased volume, and think it would be both less useful and less enjoyable.

That said, Oklahoma is a different situation because of the relative level of activity and also because apparently a lot of them are on here already. I know several have met a bunch of the Dallas guys. I don't think some kind of connection would detract. But I'm not sure what form it would take or how it would work logistically. Some of the Dallas guys may be interested in OK events, but the ones who aren't may not like sifting through notices for OK events, and vice versa. I dunno, there may be a lot of logistical issues but I'm not against it in principle.

not to merge the boards, logistically i wouldnt even want to get involved in what that would take. User names being reserved, yata yata....too much to even think about. It was just an idea that allows people to do other things. The OK posts will stay where they are and the dallas posts would stay where they are. I know that when Sal or Myself makes a post, we post it on both forums. To get more feedback. Its cool either way. I was just talking to PP and trying to find ways to make things more exciting. Also when one plans to travel its good to have a network or social circle outside of home you can reach out to. You could maybe add a section to the homepage of brother chapters. Likeminded and lair leaders that you have similar views with and put links to those lairs. Its just me brainfarting on a page....I to be honest with you, love my lair guys and getalong with all of them. I am the one that brought my guys here to sign up and after each of them has met a dallas guy or made a trip to dallas it makes them more interested in the individuals they met. But i digress, i dont run my lair as a business, its just a lair. Maybe im wrong, i dunno. I do it for the fun and growth of it all. Im drugged up on vic and muscle relaxers because of the car accident i had today and im just rambling so I will stop now.

I don't know about merging forums, but it would be cool if special events in OKC were announced here in the announcement section.

Who said merge boards? Link boards, you know, like a web ring or a links page. To use his metaphor, the lair forums for the different groups are the "frat houses" and they are all part of the larger "frat"
throw in a ring or secret handshake and we got the masons.
