I am considering leasing a sports bike for the summer days, anyone knows where to do so?

I believe Boyracer rides. Send him a PM see if he can help. I know there is a BMW/Ducati shop in Plano but I don't know if they lease. You might want to think about just buying used. The price is usually a lot less than new. The real killer is going to be insurance.

I don't know of anyplace that leases bikes.

If you're just getting into it, the ONLY way to go is to find a bike that's 3-4 years old, and has been taken care of. A buddy of mine bought a 5 year old Honda CBR for $3500, rode it for about a year, dropped it a couple of times (LOL - that's why you buy used). Sold it for $3000, and then bought a new CBR he's riding now.

one of those runs $11,500 new. so there is significant savings in buying used. That is the way with most bikes. The used price I usually hear is around $3000 so you're definitely much better off buying used. The big cost is still insurance.

There's a big gap in insurance premiums between a 1000cc and 600cc bike, all other factors being the same.

Mine isn't too bad.... State Farm - $680 per year. That's cheaper than my car!!!!

Thanks Boyracer and Duece. I will shop around for a used bike...i can get to drop it a few times . I spoke to my insurance agent....your right Duece that will be a killer.

When you get ready to do it, let me know. I have a friend who is in the used bike business, so he'll get you a great deal. Just need to have an idea of what you're looking for, and a price range.

this is true, you can get a nearly new ninja 250r ride it and sell it at a break even price or even a profit if you got a good deal to start with... ive done a lot of research but i cant buy a bike until i change my lifestyle (too much drinking, not enough sleep = roadkill)

take the msf class if you havent rode before, even if you have its an insurance deduction

dont start out with a sports bike if you havent rode before, a wrong twist of your wrist on a powerful bike will fuck you up, any rider will tell you that its not if you will drop it but when... plastics are expensive, naked bikes are cheaper to repair... but if you must get a sports bike and you are a new driver stay under a 600, if you must have a 600 the katanas are probably the most mild

im also getting into the bike scene, and am up for a smallish cc full sized sports bike that looks great.

everyone is all about the kawi ninjas becasue theyre small, hard(er) to kill yourself on, are a good entry level toy that you dont lose much money on (if any) but another attractive option that came up (for me, anyway) ended up being the hyosung gt250r or gt650r (for pics, do a google image search, youll get hundreds of decent pics)

the 250r retail in the states for about 3600, have a 2 year warranty, and youl can expect to lose about 20% of the msrp over the course of a year/year and a half - in comparison, a buddys kawi ninja just developed an electrical problem out of the blue that is going to cost him the same ($1200 AU) to fix as the entire depreciation on the entire bike if he had gone the new hyosung rather than the old ninja
