I think this explains why a friend of mine had success on eHarmony. Its because the girls only get 5 picks a day. Not the 10,000 emails a day they normally get on other sites like match.com or plenty of fish.

Its funny how choice or increased choice can have a detrimental effect on people's happiness. In the video, he describes how the paintings were ranked and how if the people were given a choice to "trade in" their first choice paintings, this would make them de-value and be unhappy at their first choice.

There was actually a book written on this topic and I'll have to find it and read it.

For me this comes as a suprize and also the fact that the community prizes choice, almost worships it in a weird way, which leads me to question the validity of choice as a goal.

Comments?

I understand what you're saying. Too many options make it hard to decide. I've read a little about this as well and I don't disagree with it. The funny thing is that we're seldom satisfied with what we have. There is always a better girl, car, job, house, whatever just out of our reach. If we can just get that we'll be happy. But, the happiness is fleeting. Soon we need another happy fix.
