From what I can tell and from what I have read there is an uproar because they are being charged for attempted homocide?

What is the real reason everyone is upset?

That's not correct. There were several incidents against black students that occurred in that town and in that school, and there were no prosecutions. This includes the hanging of nooses in school colors on the "white" tree after black kids asked to sit under it, an assault with a rifle by a white man, and school fights involving white kids. None of these resulted in charges being filed.

How the assault in question actually occurred is difficult to tell, as the stories of what happened differ. Some say it was racially provoked. Also, one of the accused claims he was only watching and was not involved. What we do know is that by that point, racial tensions were very high.

In any case, regardless of how it occurred, attempted murder charges being filed for a school fight is excessive.

So what was the deal with the tree? The way that the media and everything was saying was that they jumped him because of a neuce in a tree or something.

This is my understanding based on the media, purely.

They never said anything was mentioned about white kids not getting charged with felonies for jumping black kids?

Like I said though thats what i understand from what I have seen on TV.
Im not saying TV is 100% right all the time, I just dont understand the whole problem.

I have mix feelings about this situation and will try to stay out of it. I believe this whole thing started when some white guys hung three hang man nooses on a tree in front of the school. If I had seen that for myself, I would be extremely livid. I think that the law over reacted in this situation. I have notice that the Police is getting Taser Happy lately. I heard on the news today a second account where a Policeman used a Taser on a person who was already handcuff and subdued.
It bothers me that the Black Community keeps bringing up the Race Card. However, I think that in this situation they may have a Real Case.

First, I'm utterly shocked that redneck whites from Louisania are not living in total harmony with blacks.

The racial tension in this little Lousiania town were at a high prior to the most recent incident. There was a de facto segragation, in that the black kids would eat lunch by the auditorium, and the white kids would eat lunch under a tree that became known as the "white tree".

Last year, some troublemaker decided to stir up a ruckus for no good reason, and asked if he could sit under the white tree, 3 black students went and sat under the the white tree.

Having heard about the incident, I dove down to Jena and hung 3 nooses on the tree, as a way of saying those students are welcome to "hang out" here anytime.

Evidently, my efforts to further racial harmony were misinturpeted, and racial tensions further escalated. On Dec. 2006, some dumb white kid started talking shit to a group of black students about how one of them had gotten "beat up by a white man the night before". Suprisingly, this lead to him getting the shit kicked out of him by 6 black students.

Normally, I'm all for harsh punishments of people who don't look like me, but the District Attorney took it a bit far here. He tried to charge 5 of the students with Attempted Murder (Dumbass white kid spent 2 hours in the hospital) and conspiricy (because I guess the negros "conspired" to kick the shit out of the guy). Futhermore, in order to meet the requirement of "use of a deadly weapon" for an aggrivated battery charge, the DA argued that the tennis shoes used in kicking the victum were deadly weapons. Suprisingly the all white jury, which included a close friend of the victum's father agreed.

I'm suprised the black students weren't also charged with being vagrant as well.
