How to deal with sore muscles

Hey guys,
Bought my first ever gym membership now that it's to cold to do the track every day. Anyway, I have been doing the elliptical for 30 minutes, half cardio, half slow fat burn. Been doing that for about a week, and my calves just start burning bad after about 5 minutes into the workout. I guess it is from lactic acid buildup. Anyway, I have been pushing through it, but it's painful. Do any of you know anything I can do to help with this?

Water. Drink lots and lots of water. Also, when you get recurring pain while you work out then that's a sure fire sign that you're over doing it.
I would recommend that you lay off the eliptical machine and spend a couple of days slinging some iron.

We need clarification.
The soreness in the day(s) following your workout is a result of tiny tears in your muscles. Once healed, your muscles will be stronger and bigger.
Then there's the burning sensation during a workout, which is due to lactic acid buildup. As you get stronger and build stamina, you won't feel the "burn" as quickly.
My frst gut reaction is to say, "think of all the times people have called you fat. Think of your goals. Think of your health. Then use that energy to fight throgh it until you can't anymore."
there isn't much you can really do to prevent the burn. The lactic acid is a byproduct of the ATP process. Lots of water will help flush it out, but relief is not immediate. The only way is to get stronger and build stamina.
but, I suggest you take a SHORT break, and do an exercise that doesn't engage your calves as much. Possibly a light jog, swim, or other cardio workout. Once the burning sensation resides a bit, jump back on the elliptical and feel the burn!!
