Insanity Workout

Just wondering if anyone has ever tried or heard of the insanity work out. Says you don't need any equipment except for the dvd video discs that show you what to do (I can get those for free pretty easily).

If you do what it tells you, it says you will burn 1,000 calories a day within one hours workout. That's pretty damn good considering when I run a mile in 10 min or less I only burn about 100 calories. This is pretty much just a cardio work out.

I will try this out this weekend and see how it goes.

What exactly do you want to look like?
How committed are you to achieving that goal?
What does your diet look like?

I have a work out regimen that prodigy wrote up for me (and he talked to me a bit about diet). But I'm figuring if I burn more calories, that I will get there quicker. This insanity workout is only cardio, this would be in addition to my current workout plan with weights(which only has one day of cardio on it). I guess it's a bit of deep seeded laziness on my part too, since with this workout plan you are supposedly able to eat whatever that you want (due to the high calorie burn rate).

But to answer your questions, I would say the stereotypical answer of brad pitt fight club look. In that movie he's got the perfect combo of muscle and smallness. I don't want to be jacked up ripped like a body builder or someone on roids. I want to focus more on the stomach and abs though, I would prefer to have those than huge ass biceps.

Diet consists mostly of cheap foods. I eat cereal and organic mac n cheese. Sometimes a peanut butter or turkey sandwich here and there. Some organic yogurt. I don't do colas, mostly drink water, organic milk and some juice. And I only eat one or two meals a day. Not the healthiest diet I guess, but it could be worse, I used to eat a lot of $1 frozen tv dinners and ramen noodles and canned foods like speghettios. So I am improving on that aspect.

Again, this workout is only cardio, so this would only be half the battle.

Well, for starters you don't need any cardio. Zero. Chicks don't dig the Auschwitz look. Cardio will not get you the Brad Pitt Fight Club look. You need to put on muscle mass. You are what you eat my friend, so start eating more protein and less junk. If you don't want to look like a roided out bodybuilder then don't do roids. Eat better and follow Prodigy's routine and you will see some results.

Personally I think the best plan of aciton for you is a full body routine performed 2 or 3 days a week that includes squats, bench press, dead lifts, bent rows, overhead press, and decline situps. You will start looking like a lil Brad Pitt in no time. In 6 weeks you would see a huge change in bodyfat and musculature and you would feel terrific.

FYI - Because of your obviously fast metabolism you do not need to worry about getting huge. That doesn't happen without tremendous dedication and "supplementation". You also don't need to worry about cardio. How skinny do you want to get?? I wouldn't even think about doing any cardio (other than sprints) for at least a year if I were you.

I was under the impression that I had to do cardio in addition to weights to burn fat. I'm not fat, but I need my body fat % lowered and muscle mass increased. Everyone already has some ab muscles, but there is fat covering them, that's why everyone doesn't have a 6 pack. But I guess I was wrong about that and the weight lifting will be sufficient enough on its own.

Thanks for the info lion, and I'll chill out on the cardio a bit.

I dont think you should do the insanity workout. I heard it's pretty hardcore, even worse than p90x. Burning 1000 calories a day would negate and retard your growth; all the nutrients you take in would be burnt up, leaving none to build muscle.

Concerning diet, you should definitely increase your protien intake. It doesn't sound like you're getting enough to build all the muscle you want.

So continue to workout regularly to build muscle mass and eat more food, especially protien.

Yeah, no cardio. If you lose anymore weight a stiff breeze will blow you over. You need to gain weight and when you have a sufficient base that's when you cut down to look like the Pitt-meister. When you gain muscle you get the added benefit of having a fat incinerator burning fat 24/7. Cardio burns muscle and fat.

Here is the poor mans bulking diet:
Tuna and Ramen Noodles with any kind of flavoring you want (I like to heat it up in the microwave and add bbq sauce, tastes just like brisket).
Whole Eggs, any way with any seasoning and cheese
Meat, fish, or fowl, any way
Whole Milk
Baked Potato's

That diet will make a man out of you and there's nothing cheaper. Couple that with a weight routine 2-3 days a week and you'll be looking like Tyler Durden in no time.

Edit:

Every time you eat mac and cheese throw a can of tuna in it. Tastes great with pepper.
PB&J's are good too, eat a lot of those

Lion has good advice, but I would add a word of caution. I see alot of people bulk and while they add muscle, they also add lots of fat, making them look big, but not lean like brad Pitt.

For your goals, I'd be careful about that. Your goal is to gain lean muscle mass, not just bulk. Rather than just eating things that could make you fat (like mac n cheese, etc), I'd focus on quality foods with high protien such as lean meats. Add a protien shake if necessary.

Having said that, it really depends on your approach. You can bulk, bulk, bulk then lean up. Or, keep your diet in check and just build lean muscle while maintaining acceptable body fat percentage.

Both approaches have it's advantages and disadvantages.

Bulking up then lean is faster, but you won't look as good while doing it.

Building lean muscle requires more discipline and is slower, but you look better while doing it and I think you have better results.

Prodigy, I'm a little shocked that you are telling the skinniest guy on the boards to watch his calories. You don't gain "lean" muscle mass without an excess of calories. The process which works for you Prodigy, a genetic superior, do not work for most.

The foods I have prescribed will not make justus fat. They are whole nutritious foods that are needed. Mac and cheese is no good, but he already eats it and is not fat. When you are as skinny as justus, and I know this from personal experience, you cannot be worried about eating. It's a chore to put on even an ounce of muscle. Justus must eat.

I am telling you right now, Justus, if you watch what you eat and try and limit your calories your body composition will never change. Stick to whole, nutritious foods and plenty of them and you will look good. You are in a prime position right now to make some excellent progress but not if you restrict calories. If you were to strip the fat off of your body right now you would look like Anne Frank. You have to have a base underneath the little layer of fat to even remotely resemble the B Pitt look.
