Happy 4th!!!

And now a little story my dad tells me every night when he tucks me in.

John Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN ) for 6 am. While his coffeepot (MADE IN CHINA ) was perking, he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG ).

He put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA), designer jeans (MADE IN SNGAPORE) and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA).

After cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA) he sat down with his calculator (MADE IN MEXICO ) to see how much he could spend today

After setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN ) to the radio (MADE IN INDIA ) he got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY ) filled it with gas (from Saudi Arabia ) and continued his search for a good paying AMERICAN JOB.

At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day checking his computer (made in MALAYSIA ), John decided to relax for a while.

He put on his sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL ), poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE ) and turned on his TV (MADE IN INDONESIA ), and then wondered why he can't find a good paying job in AMERICA.

and now he's hoping he can get help from a President (MADE IN KENYA) .

Let's celebrate the 4th by starting our own companies!

Yes, lets start companies that make luxury goods for rich people! lets make them better than anywhere else so they want to buy from us! Then we can charge a bunch for them and we can all make money until the government decides to try to squeeze money out of the rich by taxing their luxury goods that we make in America so the rich people will buy it from another country where they make it almost as good but much cheaper without the tax.

You know,

Like Carter did

with the American luxury yacht industry

which moved to Europe

because luxury yachts are sea going transportation

which you can by anywhere in the world

Umm...

OR you can look at this from a different angle...

Everyone makes the things we use, but we manage the process of making said devices...

So, basically, the rest of the world is America's bitch...

Food for thought, which, by the way was more than likely grown, processed, distributed, and sold in the good 'ole U S of A...

Obama sucks...

Happy, 4th of July...you know the holiday where we celebrate our freedom that doesn't really exist...

What major export does america have? Our cars suck. We consume more oil than we produce. I can't think of anything that the rest of the world is lining up to get from America. Maybe you guys can help me out here. But we are not self sufficient and need to import products from other countries.

There's not as much money in tangible, manufactured goods these days. Exports are technology, entertainment, franchises, medicine, software, business in general...

I'd rather be the one in an air conditioned office paying a dollar an hour to the poor schmuck overseas to harvest some cotton and stitch together a shirt, rather than the other way around.

Yeah,

But what about when the poor shmucks overseas cut you out and design/distribute their own products?

I'd rather own the business here paying the poor schmuck $2 an hour (minimum wage laws..) and keep our economy completely homegrown.

..thats not likely to happen.

companies tend to keep trade secrets very well and the majority of the labor force in third world nations do not have the education to reverse engineer a product. even if they did, the demographics of the labor force are generally, poor, uneducated, have children and live day to day, paycheck to paycheck. they do not have the resources to build a manufacturing plant and hire personnel to own and operate a business....
