err...why should I be "thanking" Christians for doing something that they didn't do?? and if you knew anything about Sharia law, you'd know how similar it is to common law
and...I totally disagree about not needing religion to have morals. The morals that athiests have today are morals that they picked up from people who are believers (in whatever religion) 100 years after everyone (hypothetically) forgets about religion, we'd be right back to beating each other over the head with clubs

Yeah,

"And she’s not the only one. Although underage marriage is illegal in New Zealand, Islamic (Shari’a) Law permits it and Muslims practice it."

I see what you mean... the parallels are striking.. totally like common law...

Man, if you're too lazy to actually read what I wrote, then why are you even responding? My reply to you regarding allah akbar rests in previous posts.

Much of this boils down to creating and maintaining a civilized society. As much as I hate the police, they do have a restraining function in society. People can be controlled or restrained from evil or wrongdoing in 2 ways:
1. Within (internal restraint, morals, ect...)
2. Without (police, jail, ect...)

Obviously the first option is the prefferred one. No policing force ever devised can cope with a people with no internal restraint. Imagine if the entire nation woke up today, and said "screw traffic lights, I'm just going through, Hell with them." The results would be horiffic. Apply that now to murder, or anything more serious than a simple traffic law.

The nest question is: "From where do we get our moral code?"
Again, there are really 2 main options.
1. A universal code, that applies to all persons at all times.
2. Utilitiarianism or "the voice of the people" (vox populi)

Is it possible then, that there is a universal compass, that covers all mankind?
Things such as, do not murder, do not steal, do not lie?

If there is NOT a universal truth or compass, then by what do we judge? The majority of the people? If 51% of people vote to pass as law, then it is right?
Let us not forget, Hitler was indeed an elected official at the beginning.

First off, I'd like to throw a kudos out to Finesse and Grimm for incredibly well articulated and well thought out posts on this subject. Quite frankly, your posts made me think about everything to an even deeper degree. In my case, I just make decisions based on what seems to 'make sense to me.' Not to brag, but this has worked for me because I've been fortunate enough to be blessed with above average intelligence. So, for me, having a moral compass such as religion is a good thing, even if I'm not religious, because it just made sense. And, being allowed to make decisions for myself based on my current situtation seemed right because it just made sense. Hence, my philosophy on life. You guys made me THINK and I appreciate that...

Having said that, I think one of the biggest issues that most people have, especially the Libs in America, is they don't think in terms of 'wow, look at our standard of living, look at what I have as an American, look at my life compared to that of other people in the world.' Instead, they say, 'why can't I have my healthcare taken care of, why can't I own a house, why can't I have a high paying job?' The truth is that Libs have no PERSPECTIVE. They don't understand that, even though they may have less than other Americans (which is usually a function of their own shortcomings), they have so MUCH MORE than the rest of the world.

They don't understand that they have recieved the greatest single asset they could have ever hoped for at birth...to be born an American. Just being born in this country is the equivalent to winning the fucking lottery when compared to being born anywhere else in this world.

I am grateful, EVERY SINGLE DAY, that I'm an American and that I was born in this country. And, I have an obligation, in my mind, to make the most of this opportunity. If not for me, but for all of those poor souls born in other places in the world that will never know the luxuries that I have been taught are just part of being an American...even more so to all of those patriots that spilled their blood and the blood of tyrants at the alter of freedom and liberty. We're lucky motherfuckers, you better appreciate it...

@ Smirks:

I have a hybrid belief regarding man's origin. I believe that evolution does exist, which explains why the gallbladder is useless, why goose bumps have no biological purpose, and why some people have green, blue, or brown eyes. I think, over time, that humans (and all life forms) have changed and evolved. But, until science can prove that life was started from non-life, I have to hold open the distinct possibility that life was created and then was allowed to mutate and change under it's own free will. In that sense, Creationism and Evolution are both viable options for explaining Man's origin.

@ Just/us:

You're wrong about politicians. I implore you to listen to as many of Ronald Reagan's speeches as you possibly can...then, listen to Obama's speeches...you'll see the difference between the two men. One is virtuous and believes that people are good and capable of achieving great things...the other is underhanded and believes that people are incapable of taking care of themselves. Once espouses confidence while the other preaches hopelessness and dependency...I'll let you decide which is which.

You probably know my answer and, yes, I remember Reagan's funeral. I remember all of my loved ones calling me and checking in on me to see how I was doing. Once he was gone, we lost a national treasure. A great patriot that, even though never knew me personally, believed in me and of what I could achieve on my own. One wish I've always had was to look him in the eye, shake his hand, and say thank you. He understood us, he understood America and what it means to be an American.

Where have you gone Reagan? A broken country has forgotten your message...

Holy fucking shit this is a heated debate.

Can you imagine if we talked about game like this? We would all be pretty damn good if we did. It is funny to me that so many people will speak their mind about politics and religion but no one argues over game. Is there a reason for that?

If joe blow makes a post asking a question and one person responds, rarely do I ever see another opinion on the matter. No one seems to want to step on anyone's toes when it comes to discussing game. But here on these topics no one minds going overboard.

I know this is off topic for the off topic area but remember what this board is ultimately for. It's too bad that this is the only section that has an active opinionated audience.

Good Day

I think that's because there are few here that really comprehend advanced game topics...and the posts that are on the subject of these advanced topics only get replies like, "Good post." 90% of the people on this board come here to learn the gimmicks, tricks (mind tricks included) to simply get them laid...not to improve themselves as a man. Just my observation of it, at least.

I've long thought the same thing. I've always wondered if it was just our way of not calling people out regarding Game so as to not step on anyone's ego.

That and calling people out, unless you know them well, and have a lot of trust, usually involves conflict, debate, and pissing matches.

It can be done without people being defensive, but only if a strong friendship is there. The fact we cant says a lot about where we all stand as a group.

That site isn't biased at all! let's not even talk about your arrogance in assuming that they have to live their life like you do after all, she's not "Underage" she might be because of what YOU believe and YOUR laws in YOUR country (might I add that 14 is legal in some states in the US)
