handles and business

Postby Neuromancer » Thu Apr 05, 2007 9:28 pm

Hey guys, I have been thinking about this for a while. I use DeuceX for my business. I use it for everything from my company name DeuceX Imaging to my web site DeuceX.com and even my myspace account. As I expand my business and my community activities I think it is a good idea to separate them. I have let this lay since I have had time as I have been expanding my business. Now, I see this board growing and my business growing the idea is coming to the front of my mind. I'm still in no hurry.

Tonight, I was listening to Billy Idol while getting ready to go sarging (see the wiki to find out where), I heard the song Neuromancer. I love the book and I love the subtext of it. I am into NLP, I am into magic, I am into the book, I like that it has romancer in it, new romancer references the youth of the community and it's "new romance" style and it being an online community, (a very cyberpunk thing) and, well you get it.

I have 2 versions that I am thinking about:

Neuromancer (the classic)
Newromancer (different but referencial)

Like I said, I am still juggling the idea. I don't know if anyone big in the community uses it, I haven't concidered how cheezy it is, or even if people will be comfortable with the change.

so what do you guy think? be honest and do more than just vote. give opinions on major name changes like this, on name changes in general and anything else you think may apply.

I voted for Neuromancer. I loved that book, but it has been a long time since I read it. I tried to read more Gibson stuff, but I don't have much time for reading (especially now with all this pickup material). I wonder if you've read NIMBUS by Alexander Jablokov. That was a pretty good one.

So are you going to start implanting chips in women's brains and then jacking in to seduce them?

yes, its called NLP :P

I haven't read that but i will look it up. If you want more Gibson but don't have time read Burning Chrome. It's a short story anthology. It has Johnny Mnemonic in it.

Burning Chrome is great. One of my favorites is a story in there called The Belonging Kind. Relevant to pickup because this guy is a linguist who knows all about conversational transitions. He spends lots of time in bars. Then it gets a little weird, I won't spoil it.

Damn it! I have piles of unread books in my house. I guess there's room for one more.

it just...doesn't really fit...you...ah donno how to say it but it gives me a creepy feeling...

you sure can change the handle, although i thought it was good because it was like "du-sex" like German "du hast" but with sex... but this "Neuromancer" thingy just makes me think "necromancer" which is not even close to you... or is it...donno.

i'd probably work more on "romance" instead of neurons like scientists...
