My LTR wrote this, it's funny as hell, and pretty damn true. Think about all the things you're NOT seeing w. respect to the flooding up in the midwest that we've seen elsewhere. Shows something about the character of the folks up there.

1. We don't see looting.

2. We don't see street violence.

3. We don't see people sitting on their rooftops waiting for the

government to come and save them.

4. We don't see people waiting on the government to do anything.

5. We don't see Hollywood organizing benefits to raise money for

people to rebuild.

6. We don't see people blaming President Obama.

7. We don't see people ignoring evacuation orders.

8. We don't see people blaming a government conspiracy to blow up

the levees as the reason some have not held.

9. We don't see the US Senators or the Governor of North Dakota crying on TV.

10. We don't see the Mayors of any of these cities complaining about

the lack of state or federal response.

11. We don't see or hear reports of the police going around

confiscating personal firearms so only the criminal will be armed.

12. We don't see gangs of people going around and randomly shooting

at the rescue workers.

13. You don't see some leaders in this country blaming the bad

behavior of the North Dakota flood victims on "society".

I don't usually watch the news, but I have not heard of any flooding in the midwest either. Is this a comparrison between Hurricane Katrina and the Midwest Floods of June of 2008?

If it is, Katrina was much larger and more devastating than the Midwest floods were. Also, Hurricanes don't hit the Midwest, their flooding was from too much rain overflowing the rivers.

Midwest Flooding Fatalities - 13
Midwest Estimated Damages - $6 Billion+
Katrina Fatalities - 1,836 confirmed, 705 missing
Katrina Damages - $81.2 billion (2005 USD)

Or are you talking about the snow storms in North Dakota with the possibility of floods? If so, that has not actually flooded yet and again is not on the same level as a hurricane.

I guess I don't know what we are comparing here.

But that's not to say I don't agree with some of the things that you have posted.

it's not really a matter of difference of character so much as it is the fact that it's already happened before just a few years ago. They learned their lesson from Katrina

I doubt this is the reason. I really don't.

The more I think about it, actually I disagree w. her on one premise - it's just too easy to sit back and play moral quarterback from behind a computer screen.

Do I understand where she's coming from on a logical level? Yes.

Would I say these things face to face to the Katrina victims? No. There's a part of me that I know would instantly sympathize with them.

So I agree with your gut reaction that the post it bullshit, but I don't agree with how you rationalized the opinion.

No sir, I respectfully disagree on this note.

The premise of this post is 100% accurate.

There has been flooding in the Dakota's because of larger than normal snow this year (hmmm, global warming?).

Anyway, these people don't bitch and moan and complain because Mother Nature threw them a curve ball. No, no they don't. Instead, they get to work. They fight for their property, they help their neighbors do the same. They don't sit around and wait for the government to give them a hand out.

And, yes it does speak to the character of the people being afflicted.

Bull Run 1 - Welfare Mentality 0

Agreed

I wasn't aware there was flooding... hmm. While I understand a poverish mentality, where there is a will, there is a way. I feel stomped on at times by society, the world, etc.. so I bitch about it and trudge on, because I realize the only person that cares about whether I succeed or fail, and should, is ME. My family at times doesn't even care about me, although they do more so than most, they have their own problems to worry about. People will benefit from my successes, but that should just be an added bonus, not the beign of my existence.

I'm sick and tired of this woe is me mentality. Grow a fucking pair and try to solve your own problems. The levies breaking are the only thing that can be attributed to the government since they were charged with maintaining and building them.

"Katrina Fatalities - 1,836 confirmed, 705 missing
Katrina Damages - $81.2 billion (2005 USD)"

Damages I would contribute 40% to the government due to the levies, 50% to the people for no insurance and not being prepared (since they know they live in a fucking bowl next to the ocean that they should plan on being flooded) and 10% to mother nature.

The deaths, you can chalk up to bad luck, and their own stupid faults or bad decisions. They had at least 3 days notice, and were being evacuated by government entities, what else do you need? Same reason the people in the north died also, bad decisions or ignorance.

BTW since there are massive differences:

Katrina: 31 people per 1 billion dollars damages died or went missing
Dakotas: 2 people per 1 billion dollars died
(based on Just/Us figures)
