towed

Alright, time to bitch. I was hanging out with Bull Run tonight and I parked outside his apartment at the adjacent complex. Come back at 2am and my shit got TOWED!

Cost me $150 and an hour to get that out.

HOW IS THIS SHIT EVEN LEGAL? Ok, so I'm gonna start a company and all I do is go around and take peoples property like their cars, and haul it off to some gated off location which I own, and charge them whatever the fuck I feel like charging them to get their property back. All while having no affiliation with law enforcement whatsoever.

Can you say...GANGSTER???

OK it was private property. But isn't $150 a bit excessive???? I mean seriously, how do they get at that number? i feel i have the right to know, but nobody would tell me. Come on jesus christ. Anyway, just a rant.

Yeah its legal. Any property owner can have your car towed. Most likely somebody was watching you and there were probably signs posted warning you of the consequences. I swear they always hide these signs behind some bush. lol.

Wow you got out cheap man.

I remember back when I was first in the game. I had a non community wing. Well he went over to some FB apt one night to grab her clothes and shit since she was staying at his place. He was illegally parked for maybe 10 minutes and they ganked his car.

It was about $270 and we had to drive all the way over to some crazy far place an hour away. So I ended up wasting about 3 hours of my life helping him and was up till like 7 am. It sucked donkey dick.

Howie dead link. So they can just charge you anything they want? why not $1000? more?

hell i'm in the wrong business. time to start up Peter Grimm's towing service. I'll just drive around and tow people's cars, and if they want that shit back, it's gonna run them $1000.

I got towed (I'm pretty sure illegally) a while back, and so I did alot of research on the subject.

Turns out, there are ALOT of detailed laws regarding who can tow and when.

The laws bore down in detail to the size of the lettering of the sign as well as the position of the sign relative to the entrance of the parking lot.
Also, towers have to be 'licensed'
(tho that seems to be a joke since each of the times I or one of my friends where towed, the guy we had to deal with was some redneck inbreed straight out of deliverance).

But as long as all of the lawful towing qualifications are met, I don't think there's much that can be done to prevent it.
I have heard that they can't tow the car if you're in it...and I've heard someone suggest that, if you ever see your car getting towed, to run over and get in.
Kind of a funny solution...but who knows how well it'd go over in reality.

Also, I seem to remember that there were some details in the docs I found regarding cost to retrieve your car...but I don't remember what they were....and I'm pretty sure $150 is within the limits unfortunately.

I'm sure if you poke around enough you can find the legislation docs I did....its texas state legislation, so I bet if you started at http://www.state.tx.us/ you could find something if you wanted to read through it.

All in all, I completely agree with you Grimm...towing is fucking stupid and I think it should be much more restricted than it is.
Plus, regardless of how many laws there are...the fact is, even if the tower breaks one of these laws, you're going to HAVE to pay them to get your car back....and then you'll have to go through the whole process of taking them to court just to prove the tow was illegal and get the money back.

There are a few situations where it might be warranted...but I think that most of the time, it really isn't.
And the pricing, regardless off the situation, is fuckin absurd.

over here, The fine starts at $270 just to take it and $20/day just last month my "second car" (a 66 ElCamino) was towed because my aparments declared it "inoperable" even though it was fully tagged/inspected *and* it runs just fine (assholes) my lease was running out that next month so I flipped them the finger and moved out. I had to pay $290 to get it out, and I have to go through some court BS to get my money back...

I had my truck towed from MY OWN apt complex before. I called the freakin popo and reported it stolen, come to find out they towed my shit. Don't know what they were trying to charge, I'll be damned if I'm paying to get my shit back to where I fucking live.
