U4GM: Best Weapons For Druids – Mastering Your Wild Heart

The Druid in Last Epoch is a master of shapeshifting, bending the forces of nature to their will, transforming into powerful beasts, or commanding loyal companions. While much of a Druid's power comes from their chosen form and the skills associated with it, your weapon choice remains incredibly vital. It dictates your base damage, provides crucial stat bonuses, and can even unlock unique build possibilities.

Weapon Types & Their Druid Applications

1. Axes (One-Handed & Two-Handed)

Strengths: Typically exhibit high physical damage, making them well-suited for Werebear builds focused on physical attributes. Two-handed axes provide the greatest potential for raw damage. Implicits frequently enhance physical damage or strength.
Best For: Physical Werebear (e.g., Swipe, Upheaval), Bleed Werebear.
Considerations: One-handed axes can be combined with a shield for increased defense, or a catalyst for enhanced spell/minion power if you are pursuing a hybrid approach.

2. Maces (One-Handed & Two-Handed)

Strengths: Comparable to axes in terms of physical damage characteristics, often featuring favorable stun probabilities or defensive implicits such as Block Chance for one-handed versions. Two-handed maces deliver significant damage.
Best For: Physical Werebear, Tanky Werebear builds.
Considerations: A viable alternative to axes for physical builds, particularly if you discover one with superior affixes.

3. Swords (One-Handed & Two-Handed)

Strengths: Generally faster than axes or maces, often come with critical strike chance implicit. Good for builds that rely on frequent hits.
Best For: Critical Strike Werewolf builds, hybrid shapeshifter/melee builds.
Considerations: While 2H swords offer high damage, 1H swords paired with a catalyst or shield can offer a good balance of offense and defense or utility.

4. Daggers

Strengths: Very fast attack speed, often have high critical strike chance implicits. Excellent for triggering on-hit effects or rapidly applying ailments like poison.
Best For: Poison Werewolf, rapid-hit Werewolf builds, any Druid wanting to proc spells on hit.
Considerations: Lower base damage per hit, but compensate with speed.

5. Staves

Strengths: Primary weapon for spellcasting Druids. Offer high spell damage, often alongside mana, ward retention, or elemental damage implicits.
Best For: Spriggan Form (Thorn Shield, Healing Totem, Summon Spriggan), Cold/Lightning elemental Druid builds (if you opt out of shapeshifting for a spellcaster playstyle).
Considerations: Two-handed, so you sacrifice a shield or catalyst slot.

6. Scepters (One-Handed)

Strengths: One-handed spellcasting weapons, allowing for a shield or catalyst off-hand. Provide spell damage and often elemental damage or cast speed.
Best For: Spriggan Form, hybrid spellcasting Druids.
Considerations: Lower raw spell damage than staves, but the off-hand slot offers significant utility (more stats, ward, defenses).

7. Bows (Yes, really!)

Strengths: While not directly for your melee or spell skills, some unique bows can grant powerful minion stats (e.g., Thorn Slinger for vine summons) that can benefit a Spriggan build even if you never fire an arrow.
Best For: Specific minion-focused Spriggan builds looking for unique minion affixes.
Considerations: Very niche, only viable if the unique implicit or affixes outweigh the loss of direct spell damage.

The Role of Last Epoch Gold in Weapon Acquisition

While many top-tier weapons will drop as lucky uniques or exalted items, Last Epoch Gold plays a crucial role in empowering your build:

Crafting Materials: Gold is crucial for acquiring crafting shards from vendors to enhance your weapons. You will require specific shards for attack speed, critical chance, minion damage, or attribute enhancements.

Rune & Glyph Purchases: Runes and Glyphs, which are essential for advanced crafting (such as sealing affixes or breaking down items), can be obtained from vendors, typically necessitating a substantial amount of gold.

Base Item Acquisition: Occasionally, the most effective method to obtain a perfectly rolled weapon is to locate a desirable "Exalted" (where one or more affixes are T6/T7) weapon base from a vendor or the Auction House (once it is fully operational in Cycle). Maintaining a robust supply of gold enables you to acquire these valuable starting points for crafting.

The ideal weapon for your Druid is significantly dependent on your selected playstyle and a particular shapeshift form. Do not hesitate to experiment! Pay careful attention to the implicit statistics of the weapon base, and then add the explicit affixes that directly enhance your primary damage type, scaling attributes, and preferred mechanics such as critical hits or ailments.
