Los Angeles PUA Summit 2007 Summary, pt. 1
August 30th, 2007

Review by http://kissntale.wordpress.com/

Wow, what a weekend! I have never seen so many men gathered in one
room before in my life!!!

If you were late to the party, Johnny Wolf and Vince ”Hollywood”
Kelvin hosted the first ever Los Angeles PUA Summit at the Roosevelt
hotel this past weekend. No less than 16 pick-up and dating gurus came in
to share their wisdom with the audience and I got to say, it was a
blast!

SATURDAY

9:35 a.m.: I get to the Cinegrill room inside the Roosevelt. I
register and help out where I can. I catch a glimpse at the opening go-go
dancing performance. These girls look funny. They are cute but the way
they dance is… well, clumsy? I can tell they aren’t really
professionals.

9:45 a.m.: Johnny Soporno is a no-show. He’s been having flight
issues and is stuck in Chicago. So who do we get as a surprise guest
speaker? Sebastian Drake from theApproach! Man, I haven’t talked to Seb
in a while. It’s good to see him on stage. He talks about
combative vs competitive vs cooperative interactions. I liked what he had to
say but I’ve heard it before.

10:15 a.m.: Cameron Teone talks about natural game and developing
yourself to fit the type of women you want to date. He makes fun of
peacocking and the use of heavy Community lingo talk. I like his message and
hope some of the guys who come from a heavily indirect background take
his presentation to heart. I’m surprised to see him though. Last
time I’ve seen him was in January and he was taking some time away
from the Community.

Break: I take a moment to talk to one of the go-go dancer. The
obvious burning question on my tongue is: “what do you think of everything
so far?” She hesitates to answer. She thinks I am working for Vince
Kelvin. After I reassure her that I’m not, she tells me she’s
actually pretty creeped out. She’s not used to having so many guys
around her… especially when most of them are trying to run game on her.
What I find funny is when when she tells me she was weirded out the
most by Vince Kelvin. Even though he is one of the organizer for the
event, she doesn’t feel very comfortable around him. Ha! What can I
tell you… Vince is pretty out there! :)

11:15 a.m.: Asian Playboy speaks about what it takes to become good at
pick-up. He calls it “Beginner’s Hell.” Since I’ve attended
his 2 previous free Los Angeles seminar, I don’t hear anything really
new. However, APB’s presentation skills have improved a lot! His
stage presence is great and he really engages the audience like I have
once suggested to him. I take some time to meet up with him, Sebastian
Drake and Cameron Teone backstage afterwards. They are just cool guys.

Lunch: I don’t really have time to go very far so I grab a burrito
from the Baja Fresh next door. It seems that we can’t bring outside
food onto hotel property so I end up sitting on the pavement like a
bum. Interestingly, one of the guys I hang out with turns out to be
Alain, a friend of my non-Community buddy Juan. Small world indeed, eh?

1:30 p.m.: Daniel Johnson gives examples of the types of techniques
taught in PU101’s Art of Attraction and Art of Rapport workshops. The
best part of his talk was his demonstration of a cold read/assumption
with the “Super Girl” he brought in with him. The structure of the
cold read is “I can tell that you are <x>, but deep inside, I can see
that you are <y>.” Each person in the room gets to practice with
the person sitting next to him/her. I definitely have fun with that
drill. I turn to Alain and say softly:

I can tell that you have beautiful lips, but I know that deep
inside, it’s warm and moist

He cracks up laughing. He can’t take it anymore and just turns
around then walks away. Man, what did I do wrong? ;)

I approach the “Super Girl” after the presentation. She’s really
cool! I don’t remember what we talk about but I notice she’s
quite touchy feely. From what she tells me, she has become a lot more
comfortable with the woman that she is today, when compared to her former
self who worked at Microsoft.

2:00 p.m.: Julian Foxx introduces his bootcamp where you can learn how
to use club promoting to become a better PUA. He also talks about a
newly developed pick-up/dating competency test that you can take at
www.mymatingskills.com. I talk to Julian afterwards for a bit. He’s
very likable. He carries a similar vibe to the other naturals I have met
so far. He’s very composed and doesn’t try to impress you in any
form or fashion. I hear he’s great with women but I don’t know
enough about him to tell.

2:30 p.m.: Brad P. takes the stage all peacoked out. I’ve never
seen him before but dang, he’s tall (and without platform shoes too!).
For some reason, I only listen to what he talks about half-heartedly.
I must be tired. He gives great examples of his shocker opener and
other fun gimmicks to stand out from the crowd of average men. I find him
enjoyable but not as captivating as I would have expected. What I
find remarkable is his use of contrast. He looks extravagant, rocker-like
on the outside but he talks with a soft-spoken, almost child-like
tone. He’s like a kid at heart and he’s very down to earth.

Break: I talk to more girls. I engage Erin, the fashion consultant.
I definitely am not hitting on her (too many guys have done so already)
but I am very interested in hearing what she had to say.
Surprisingly, she found out about PUAs from a client of hers. After giving him a
makeover, he told her about Neil Strauss’ book The Game so she read
it. Overall, she sees the Community as a positive movement for men
because she wants men to become more confident with women. However, she
admits that she is a bit turned off by the presentations that are too
techniques-oriented. With her past dating experience, she is ready to find
a man with whom she can truly connect with on a deeper lever. She’s
tired of (bad) boys with whom she has little in common with.

I then talk to Carly. She is a very feminine, pretty blonde who came
with Tung from from Social Relations Institute. She is a lot more
reserved about her opinions of the Community but from what I gather, her
impressions of the various speakers aren’t very positive. A lot of what
she heard so far is very different from what Tung would teach. Tung
teaches guys how to truly embrace themselves and become naturally
attractive.

3:45 p.m.: I miss AJ and Jordan’s presentation but I talked to them
earlier. They are quite likable guys. They have the same vibe as a
lot of the natural guys I’ve met at the summit… which is warmer and
friendlier than most of the more techniques-oriented guys.

4:00 p.m.: The Ask Romeo team has a lot of good information. Jae
covers how to overcome approach anxiety. Crystal talks about what guys
should not do from a girl’s perspective and Shrop teaches advanced
techniques on threesomes. The presentation is good due to the sheer amount
of advice given, but nothing really sticks to me. There was too much
information crammed in the alloted time. I think cutting down on the
amount of tips and focusing deeper on certain themes would have been more
helpful. I knew nothing of the Ask Romeo team before. I can see that
they take a natural approach to meeting women but something doesn’t
feel right to me. I feel like they are preaching the pick-up gospel to
me…

Dinner: I slip away from the volunteers group with Alain and I teach
him a bit about theApproach’s VAC model of attraction. I really like
Alain. He’s really fun to hang out with. After talking with me, he
realizes some of the “mistakes” he’s made during the last date
he’s had and why she kind of LBJF-ed him. Nothing is lost though…
this is completely salvageable.

6:30 p.m.: Mehow introduces his new “Infield Exposed” product. He
shows the audience footage of his sarge. After the clip is done, he
explains in details all the techniques he used. He lists all 10
compliance tests that he used during the 3-5 min interaction with the 3 girls.
I am impressed with his ability to engage his audience. He’s
definitely good but man… does he really think about all these techniques
when he’s talking to the girl?

7:30 p.m.: I don’t listen to Vince Kelvin’s speech. As good as he
is in his use of NLP for seduction purposes, I find him to be too
extravagant for my taste. I know it’s his personality (so he’s
definitely congruent with what he portrays) but he’s very gimmicky. I just
can’t relate to him at all but he has some fun kiss-close routines.
How many times can he use patterns on an audience full of guys who know
what he’s doing when he’s promoting his products? “And now, you
should realize that deep inside (self point), you want to… “ Give
me a break!

Red Carpet Event: I’m happy to see David Wygant make an appearance
with some of his weekend clients. I love chatting with the guy. He’s
just a riot! As the Pinup girls dance on stage, David jokes around
with me: “Man, this is like a Star Wars convention. Everyone’s a
freak! You have a room full of horny, desperate guys and they put
half-naked women in front. Their testosterone level is gonna go up to the
roof! When they walk out of here tonight, the first girl they are going
to talk to, they are going to cream their pants just out of pure
excitement!!!” LOL

I leave before the Awards Ceremony. I walk Hollywood Blvd with David
and his clients. We talk to random people. We are just chilling. When
they go home, I join Alain, Marc and Chris (”Orleans” from Vin
DiCarlo)’s group at McDonald’s. Marc approah this cute Asian girl
with her friend at the table next to us. Somehow, I jump in the
conversation and pull her outside to “fight” me because I just don’t
believe she’s Japanese. She really gets into it so we wrestle for a few
minutes! As we call a truce, she comes in for a tight hug. Yummy! I
bring her back to Marc. I really didn’t mean to take her away from
him but she’s young, super fun and easily excitable. Marc goes for a
quick phone number before the security guard kicks her out for causing
trouble. Oops, didn’t I do thhhaaaattt?

Not long after, I call it a night. I head home… tired… wanting to sleep.

Wow, my first pick-up award. Pretty neat and a good way to get some advertising for their next summit. I think they gave these, along with free tickets, to all the Lair Leaders that had a blurp on it. To bad no one took advantage of the free tickets we were giving away. I am sure they will have it next year, too.

P.S. Should be "Lair Founder" instead of "Lair Moderator" on the award :)
