Ahoy to jim lads disillusioned by parents and Santa Claus and planning to go out on Christmas eve/day (or simply stuck in Dallas by inclement weather). I wonder: will the conventional venues be open on these nights?

yes. xmas eve and day are very very popular days to go out, but the crowds are going to be slightly different, mind you.
Due to the fact that 90% of the bar patrons will be there with groups they've known since high school/college and are going to be VERY cliquey. Work on your BIG ASS MIXED SET game. : )
