It?s OK to Peacock

There has been some discussion lately about the virtues or effectiveness of peacocking. Some guys take the concept of peacocking way too far. A good for instance would be the video of that guy sarging while wearing a dildo hat or wearing a dress or something along those lines. I?m of the belief that only certain guys can truly peacock. Mystery for example, he?s so great at peacocking because he has a big physical presence (six foot plus) and he?s, by his very nature, a performer. He looks cool in his garb because it?s his personality to be ?on stage? and garner a lot of attention.

This is the piece that most newbies miss.

You can really only pull off peacocking, in its truest sense, if you have a rock solid frame, tons of self-confidence, and if your personality is suited to lots of attention. If you walk in to some place with some completely ridiculous outfit or item as if everyone should have the same item or outfit then and only then do I think peacocking will be effective. If you have any level of hesitation or nervousness others will pick up on it and you will be that creepy guy wearing a dress.

I?ve seen and experienced peacocking in all of its effectiveness:

-On Fat Tuesday, I went to a bar wearing TONS of Mardi Gras stuff. Sure, everyone else was too but I went over the top. I had a bunch of beads, a set of large beads that I referred to as ?anal beads,? and a jester hat. Even though everyone else was dressed the same way, I was regularly opened and closed a couple of girls including an SNL. I out peacocked the peacocks.

-I sarged in Uptown wearing a tuxedo, I was coming from a friend?s wedding reception. Never before or since have I been opened so much in Uptown. Girls were constantly coming up to me to ask me why I was wearing a tux. It was by far the most successful night I?ve ever experienced in that part of the city.

-A week ago I was sarging with Ratio off of Lower Greenville. As we were walking into Hurricane?s I noticed a stuffed Clifford dog on a car in the parking lot, he was pinned underneath the windshield wiper. So, I saved Clifford and walked into the bar with him under my arm. Within 5 minutes I was opened by a girl from across the venue. She fingered me over:

HB: ?Ok, I have to know what?s up with the Clifford dog??
Me: ?Clifford dog?? Acting confused.
HB: ?The stuffed dog under your arm?? Then she touched Clifford.
Me: ?Oh yeah, him. You have no idea how hard it was to get him in. He has no ID. Would you like me to introduce the two of you??
HB: ?Why do you have a stuffed dog with you in a bar??

I told her why, and eventually closed her. She confirmed that she used Clifford as an excuse to talk to me?mission accomplished.

Here are the keys to peacocking based on my experience:

-Peacocking can work if you?re properly calibrated and have enough Inner Game. If you still have AA or are still unsure of yourself in the realm of PU, DON?T do it unless it?s just for a laugh.

-If you?re peacocking in a group the attention you draw will be even greater than if you go it alone. So, be prepared to be bombarded.

-I?ve also found that you?re much more effective if you have a legitimate excuse, or at least a plausible excuse, to have this outrageous item. If I were to say that I just like Clifford or that someone bet me to bring it in then it makes me seem weak or up to something?your story has to seem spontaneous.

-If it?s not in your personality to deal well with attention or being a performer then leave the peacocking at home. If you aren?t just a little bit eccentric, then it?s even harder to pull off peacocking.

-Remember that holidays are perfect for peacocking and as such everyone else will be doing it as well. Therefore, you have to escalate your peacocking in order for it to be the source of attention that it?s supposed to be.

Finally, peacocking is never necessary to be successful in PU. If you're not comfortable with it or don't feel you need it, then by all means don't do it. I enjoy doing it from time to time because I enjoy attention and because it works for me.
